Libraries vs book stores

For one thing, libraries don't usually get new releases. It's hard to follow an author's career if you have to wait a year of more to read them.
Personally, I think of each book I read as an accomplishment and a part of my life. I want to be able to display them. Can't do that if they're not yours.

I sometimes use the Library, I've even had them special order books that I wanted to read. I buy most of my books because it often costs less then using the library, saves time, and the book is right at my finger tips when I'm ready to crack the cover. Of course checking books out of the library doesn't cost anything, but the nearest branch will cost me about a gallon of gas round trip, wear and tear on my car, and the time it takes out of my schedule.

I get my books from a website called bookswim, which is a netflix type rental site for books. You pay a set fee a month depending on how many books you want to be able to have at a time. They get shipped to you, you read them, then send them back in a provided envelope. You can keep them as long as you want with no late fees and if you like the book, you can tell them and they charge your credit card for it. I,m not against buying books but I donly have much money to spend and I read fairly quickly. It's not feasible for me to buy every book I read.

Because people like to have it when they want it instead of waiting for a particular book.
When I was younger there was a library within walking distance to my house so I always got books from there instead of stores. Now I only use libraries to try out books that I'm really not sure about. Though if it's a book from an author I know then I go right to the book store.
Why go out to eat when you can prepare a meal at home for a fraction of the cost?
Why buy CDs when you can just listen to the radio for free?
Why go out to the movies when you can watch it for free on TV eventually?

The library helps me be a better steward of my family's resources. We tend to check out books we'll just read once, and use the library to preview nonfiction books we think we might want to purchase. Also, we homeschool, and if I bought every single book I wanted my kids to use for a school year, I could easily spend $2000 +per year, instead of the average $1000(I have 6 students). We still buy lots of books each year, but the library keeps our costs down to at least a barely managable level. We're always wanting more, you all know how that goes.

i used the library a lot when i was younger as i didn't hav much cash but these days i buy most of mine. i have the bonus of working in a bookshop so i get a 30% discount and i also do a lot of second hand book buying on the net.

Any bookstore is like a candy store to me. Lovely to look at but usually too expensive for something I will read once. The library is my one stop shopping place. I can always find something to read and I have plenty of time to read it, renewals online make it easy to keep as long as I need to. Libraries are a great resource for our world, we should support them however we can! I feel at peace in the library because I know the books will be there when I want them.

If I find I book that I just absolutely "have to have" then I'll buy it from amazon. My attitude about library books is that it's a great a place for books that I want to read, but not necessarily own. In other words, the esoteric stuff that I read I have to buy, the common books in horror or fiction that the library does have, I check out.

If I worked at a bookshop, I'd just sign my check over to them on payday.

Because sometimes a library may not have the book that you want to read. I have been trying to see if my local library system has "Revolutionary Road" by Robert Yates and they don't. So this means that I have to either purchase a copy myself or find another library system that does have have a copy of the book.
