The Road by Cormac McCarthy

After This by Alice McDermott (finalist)
The Echo Maker by Richard Powers (finalist)

I really enjoyed it, definitely a deserving winner. I'll have to re-read it again for fun.

The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright got the pick for non-fiction. I've read a bit of that one (it's on my shelf), and it seems like a great choice.

First Oprah, now this - woo this dude's on a roll....

Someone, who's opinion I respect, said she loved The Road, but it was very "disturbing" and might give me nightmares, which I tend to have for anything these days (ah, the pleasures of turning 40 and being neurotic) -- so I haven't picked it up - but I think I will now...

Nice! Good to see him finally getting some recognition before he kicks the bucket. He should've won this for Blood Meridian back in the 80's.
