I read this book years ago. I don't remember where I read it from or the title or author, so this might be a long shot. But it has been constantly in my mind for months now, and I would like to read it again.

It was in the sci-fi genre, if I remember correctly, and it tends to lean more torwards that genre, but it has an element of fantasy in it, too.

It is about this young guy that gets warped to another world somehow (can't remember how) and gets taken by these "barbaric" type people. Well he ends up gaining social status, learning how to speak their language, and getting a leader-type position I think, in the tribe. It has a bit of a love plot in it.

I distinctly remember a part where he is learning to speak their language, and he learns fire in their language as one of his first words.

He grows up a lot, matures... it's like a denoument.

In the end he ends up finding his way back to his world, changed, and no time has passed (I think.. either that or a little time has passed and people were worried, but I am pretty sure no time passed). And he wonders what would have happened if he had stayed over in that world.

I think I remember something about a horizon either in the title or on the cover of the book. I remember orange and red colours on the front of the book. Possibly a forest or some trees... I remember when he was in the other world, he was alone for a while before he got captured and had a heck of a time fending for himself. And the descriptions of the world around him were alien yet familiar.

I hope that is enough to get some info from someone. I believe I was in middle school when I read that... so that was 10 years ago or more.

    Thank you

Beyond This Horizon by Bruce Pennington. Actually I don't know if this is book but it does have a horizon on the cover and in the title and it looks pretty cool, too.

Nor does fantastic fiction have the author listed. What sort of tome divining alchemy is this?

Correction - the Illustration is by Bruce Pennington, the novel is by Robert A. Heinlein (that had differing cover art on various editions), but this isn't the book darkneko86 is looking for.

I thought that title sounded vaguely familiar. Amazon has it here.
