Not for July 21st.I would not put it up the same time as Seoulman's discussion.

I have not read or heard of those stories. Is this a short story anthology? What's the title?

The Title of the book is Stories by English Authors and under that it writes Ireland and then Scribners,it contains the stories I mentioned above. I bought it for 2 dollars at a flea market last year and it's 120 year old book.

Perhaps you can pick some up tomorrow when you out picking up the book for Monday's short story. But what am I thinking? If you had the ingredients then you wouldn't have to read that, either.

Samuel Lover-The Gridiron

This was a nice ,funny story about an Irish crew aboard the Colleen Dhas.

A man named Paddy (crew member) is retelling the story of what happened after the Colleen Dhas sank.

The captain and the crew have been on a boat for about a week, hungry and thirsty, provisions practically gone.

They finally see land and Paddy and the captain have this back and forth conversation about where they are.

Paddy telling the story.

"Whereabouts in the wide world are we, captain? says I; " maybe it id be in Roosia or Proosia, or the Garmant Oceant' say I.

"Tut, you fool," says he,"that's France" says he.

The conversation continues awhile and Paddy wants the captain to let him ashore to go ask someone for a gridiron.

"oh, by gor, the butther's coming' out o' the stirabout in airnest now, 'says he "you gommoch," says he, "sure I told you before that's France and sure, they are all furriners there,' says the captain.

"Well, says I,' and how do you know but I 'm as good a furriner myself as any o' thim?"
"What do you mane?" says he.
"I mane,' says I, "what I towld you." "Parly voo frongsay?"

There's more ofcourse but that's all I am writing.

Cute story.

George H.Jessop-The Emergency Men

This one is on a more serious note and also an enjoyable read.

It has to do with farmers in Ireland boycotting the landlords.
The landlords call in "emergency men" to assist the landlords work.

This is an interesting article that gives you a good idea what it was all about.
