Short stories

Jane Barlow-The Lost Recruit

This was another great story.

It was about a boy, the last one living with his mother.

He desperately wanted to join the military and tried very hard to talk his mother into allowing him to do so.
A mother ofcourse thinking of his safety and also being the only man left in the house ,would not agree.

Worth reading.

A few suggestions.

Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne

A Death in the Desert by Willa Cather

Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville

The Storm by Kate Chopin

The Judges House by Bram Stoker

I am still planning to read the rest of these.:)

I just purchased High Lonesome (selected stories (1966-2006)) by Oats and so far in my initial reading, I find the quality of the writing and creativity of the stories superb- very: Nice one!

Oh, Bartleby, Bartleby: arguably the best American short-story ever written. I was almost in tears at the end when Bartleby says, "I know where I am". Read it, do read it as soon as possible!
