I think the original film and the US remake are both very good. In fact, I sort of don't really understand why the US remake was necessary, since it was so similar to the original. I guess it all just came down to the subtitles?!

With Hollywood remakes, it almost always does. I enjoyed the book, but there was a lot of exposition. Nothing to terrible, but it made the beginning a little rough to sink your teeth into.

I found the American remake slightly different. They dwelt on different aspects, and changed the ending. Well.....changed is too harsh. It's different, but what I'd call, "the same difference".

There were things about both versions that I liked better than the other. Originally I had reservations about a remake...I mean, why bother? But I enjoyed both tremendously.
