have a great evening, hope to see you during this weekend!!

Out of that list I've only seen Lola Rennt, but I've been wanting to see Metropolis for a long time now.

I saw Das Boot in an math class once, without subtitles and before I had german. Have to see that one again sometime, it seemed to be good.
Anyone seen Der Untergang?

The biggest problem with Metropolis are that there are so many versions based on the originaland some releases don't offer most of the whole story.

Other German films of recent years:

  • Goodbye, Lenin!
  • The Princess & The Warrior

There's also the Anatomy franchise - the first of which featured a lot of Gunther von Hagens' controversial artwork from his world reknowned Bodyworks exhibitions.

I didn't see any copraphilia based pornography in that list...interesting. :D

I hope I'll get around to seeing Der Untergang in a theatre, but as it's exam season, I'm afraid I'll be too late. (I usually am.)

I thought Goodbye Lenin was a decent enough movie, but not as good as the critics made it out to be. Was Der Krieger und die Kaiserin any good? I love Franka Potente, but I still haven't seen that one.

I think my favourite German movies will always remain the Romi Schneider ones, especially Sissi, as I grew up on them.

The best one I recently saw was "Harry, He's here to help"

A German sort of Talented Mr Ripley.
I didn't think Goodbye, Lenin was as funny as everyone was making out.

Another one was where a German Jewish family had moved to Africa to escape the Holocaust, but I can't remember the title. It was beautifully filmed.

Interesting that you should think that considering that film is FRENCH!

- Don't forget about Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari, Lies!
- Oh, that's right, I loved that one!

I've only seen Das Boot and Run Lola, Run.

Always wanted to watch Metropolis. Stewart, what other versions are out there? I thought as long as I got the '26 version by Fritz Lang, it would be okay. Am I wrong?

The problem with old movies is that there isn't a standard version out there. There's no director's cut, just people trying to put what's left of the film together as best as they can. And a lot have different views on how exactly the film was intended.

Umm, Stewart? No response - - must be on his ignore list. :(
Sorry, didn't realise about this.

It's as lies said, there are a number of versions put together over time. The version you have is the original which no longer exists.

Oh Pook! that's me out of the World Cinema clique then...

It was a while ago I watched it.

I hang my British head in shame.
