There Is A Spell In Autumn
by Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev
Author Category: European. Written in 1857. Show lines.

There is a spell in autumn early,
One all too brief, of an enchantment rare:
The nights are radiant and pearly,
The days, pellucid, crystal-clear.

Where played the sickle and fell the corn, a mellow,
A warm and breathless stillness reigns supreme;
Spanning the brown and idle furrow,
A dainty thread of cobweb gleams.

The birds have flown, we hear no more their clamour,
But winter's angry winds not soon will start to blow -
Upon the empty fields there pours the azure glow
Of skies that have not lost the warmth of summer.

Now it is Autumn, golden leaves, red bracelets, pure silky sky. If its beauty inspires your routine mind, here PLEASE write down your song of this special season. :) Coz the winter is secrectly deployed its soldiers around December.

When Life Is But A Round Of Crushing Care
by Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev

When life is but a round of crushing care
And, a great heap of stones, lies heavy on us,
There suddenly, God knows how, why, upon us
A joyous mood descends... Of balmy air
A breath comes from the past and, o'er us drifting,
Invades the heart, its fearful burden lifting.

At times with autumn's coming is it so,
When empty lie the fields, when bare the groves are,
And paler turn the skies - and of a sudden, over
The darkened earth a damp wind starts to blow.
A fallen leaf it chases with elation
And to our hearts of spring brings a sensation.

Leaves fall around me
As I wander through the park,
Adrift on the wind.

Red, orange, purple,
The dying leaves come alive,
Ablaze in my heart.

Bare trees stand starkly
Against a sky as grey as
My sweater's thick wool.

Dancing in the breeze,
Golden leaves twirl lazily,
As my thoughts keep time.

The last leaf fallen,
New snow makes me think: where is
That damn snow shovel?

A tiny glacier,
Ice on the front walk forbodes
A broken tailbone.

Silent, cold, lifeless --
I ponder out loud: Do I
have jumper cables?

Warm quilt, hot cocoa,
The spry wind laughs through the panes
At my pneumonia .

Voices raised in song,
Children sing in the snowfall...
Glad my door's soundproof.

Snowed in, trapped at home,
Santa thinks, I guess it'll be
reindeer steaks again
.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry... I'm a haiku kind of guy.
The tree above is naked
Except for one brown leaf
His brothers lay upon the ground
A dead cat underneath
Running through the crunchy stuff
Was really quite the ticket
Until he landed in the cat
How he wished he didn't kick it
Written in honour of the chap at my school who discovered a dead cat on his foot after spending lunch time running through the piles of dead leaves in the park. Not very good, but what do you expect for first thing in the morning?
winter waiting...
World cloaked in winters gold colors bliss,
Snow tinged indigo by suns dawn kiss,
Grey skies full of the rains promise,
Those droplets wet pattered sonnets,
Blazing red sunsets and shadows that run,
From the weakened eye of the sun,
Autumn, kicking leaves and cool playful winds
Autumn... and winter waiting.
A very early poem by me :)
:) A toast to autumn! To it's golds and browns, fire red and warm orange and to the soft lovely light, gentle shadows and purple twighlights where the stars can play.
to bundle tight and wrap ourselves during these last moments of the season of dying before the season of death.
Alone
Poem lyrics of Alone by Edgar Allan Poe.
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then - in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life - was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.
Saw the rainbow in the heaven,
In the eastern sky the rainbow,
Whispered, "What is that, Nokomis?"
And the good Nokomis answered:
"'Tis the heaven of flowers you see there;
All the wild-flowers of the forest,
All the lilies of the prairie,
When on earth they fade and perish,
Blossom in that heaven above us.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Song of Hiawatha
It’s October, skies are grey
Here comes the tumbril to take me away
And here comes the chopper to chop off your head
And here comes the undertaker
Calling bring out your dead.
It’s October, autumn leaves
Fall like the words of a renegade priest
Winds are changing, skies turn black
And the signs say that
There’s no turning back.
Somewhere in the archives I have a little trifle I wrote about a purple October sky filled with golden stars and it was very sad, I think, (I know I was sad when I wrote it) and how the constellations had changed from summer and the inevitability of change.
But I lost it.
I've a very forgetful old woman.
i was wondering what have made you maintain the love and sense of humour after you have been hurted by love---got this impression from your postings. and please forgive me. being nosy/inquisitive is not my personality.
Best wishes,
I hope i can be very forgetful as well. That makes one feel lighter at least. :)
"A room of silence, as thick as pitch, which you cannot pierce through.
A room of lonliness, the furniture being soaked, the curtain being weighed down, the scissors crying for committing suicide."
beautiful! Thanks again, controlarmsnow.
The trees in the bottom half of my garden are now mainly leafless, which means there's probably a huge pile of leaves infront of the gate that could do with removing. The other trees are evergreens. My favourites are the two great big holly trees. The rest all look a bit rubbish.
Oh, I remember the good old days when I had a garden Now I live in a flat with only my Christmas decorations to provide greenery. But in Spring I'm going to grow some Cousins of the Cucumber in a window box. That should be cool.
