    Little worried

It was sarcasm *Smiles* (or at least, supposed to be. My sense of humour sometimes gets in the way) One of those things about the net, it's so easy to misconstrue. I didn't accost you for being holier than thou, but for attacking the girl with no clear reason. My point remains valid though...

Wow, and to think you could have saved yourself 2 pages of discussion around the "facts" by actually asking. :p Lynne

I don't see that. You *know* that if you're overweight, or eat fatty foods, or smoke you're at a higher risk of having a heart attack. Why is it shitty to say that? She didn't go up to the nearest obese person and say "hey guess what, you're at a higher risk of heart attack"...

    Current Non-Fiction reads

I'm in the middle of reading "Gulag", about the gulags (suprisingly) and "The rightous gentile", about Raoul Wallenberg who helped hundreds of jews in the war also, and who later disappeared into the gulags and never came out. Both interesting reads.

Books you'd never let your kids read....

It seems to me, that with harry potter specifically, a little education would go a long way. Any pagan/witch/wiccan can tell you that (aside from the instant spell thing) there is little similarity with HP and witchcraft. For example in wicca and witchcraft, EVERYONE is a witch. Moreso...

Have you read any of the discworld books? Or "the unadulterated cat"? They made me laugh out loud also :) I'm reading... What a carve up - Jonathon Coe Stalag - I forget who The righteous gentile - again forget Lady Oracle - Margaret Atwood A clockwork Orange Mostly it depends on...

    Margaret Atwood

That's not cunning, it's cruelty to poor people! *laughs* I liked Oryx and Crake a lot, although it took me a while to get into - mostly because i kept trying to work out exactly WHEN it happened, and some other minor things that i didn't feel were eventually explained. :)

    Margaret Atwood

I've read handmaids tale, oryx and crake, blind assasin, alias grace, the robber bride, and I'm about to finish Lady oracle. I loved oryx and crake, and i also like lady oracle a lot. Alias grace also.

Intext notes and references.. love or hate?

I just finished LP Hartley's "The Go-between" in penguin classic. All the way through it has numbered references, and they're at the back of the book. For me this is intensely annoying. If there are notes, i want to know what they are, but it really breaks up continuity of reading for me. I'm...

    Are you superstitious?

For Chinese people, the number 4 is the sticker. I watched a tv show with a secret camera, and they offered a load of Chinese young men room 44 on the 4th floor (ie 444) and they balked, refused the room and asked for a change. I'm not superstitious; my favourite birds are magpies.. 1, 2...

    London Underground

I'm into history books right now :) Does anyone know of a good history of the London Underground that they would recommend? Fairly cheap would be a good price :) Failing that, it'll be a birthday present... Thanks, Lynne
