Dean Koontz

I quite enjoy Dean Koontz too, I like the fact that it just reads easily and you find yourself finishing his novel still in the same day because it just grips you till you have finished it. He also doesnt bother with too much detail which, he gets right into the story which is great 'cause I find Stephen Kings book just take way too long to get to the good stuff.

I'm a sucker for garbage. :rolleyes:

Oh..... I wish I had time to finish a novel in a day. I'm reading Dean Koontz's Velocity right now and it would be one to finish in one day if I had the time. This 30 minutes here and 45 minutes there to read stuff sucks.
 
wow you guys are mentioning a lot of his best works. I have been a fan of Koontz since reading watchers. I am currently reading Odd Thomas. The begining was kind of confussing, but now I am definately intrigued. To those who haven't read much of Koontz it is hard to recommend just one, he has so many good ones.
 
i cant6 believe no one has mentioned twilight eyes, it was the first koontz book ive ever read. i was pretty young when i read it and i still remember it like i read it a month ago. it got me hooked on koontz, after that i started reading all i could. sad to say though the last couple ive read have left me wanting, i guess thats why i havnt read him in a couple years. i read the first snow book and am sad to say i didnt really like it but you all are making me want to re read it. for all of you just getting into koontz or thinking of reading him i strongly suggest twilight eyse or the one that starts off with the female jogger or the beach, heh i cant remember the title but it was great. im sure someone can think of it.

I haven't read twilight eyes yet. Koontz is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers so I'll probably get around to it one of these days. So far, I've read Life Expectancy, By the Light of the Moon, The Face, Midnight, Odd Thomas and Velocity; and I have yet to be disappointed.

Midnight starts out with a female jogger on the beach, perhaps that's the one you're thinking of.
 
What was the story with the guy called Candy with no dick but four bollocks, lesbian sisters or something, and little creatures that shit diamonds? That was a lot of rubbish.

Phantoms was good; Mr Murder also. The Voice of the Night was okay. I can't remember what other Koontz novels I've read although I read a fair few in my early teens.

I think I'd like to avoid that one. I think I can understand why you can't remember the title.
 
Found it - it was called The Bad Place. Bloody terrible. I think it may have been the last Koontz book I read; whether I grew out of him or the book just made me lose faith in him I suppose I'll never know.

Has anyone read The Taking? If so, how was it? I'm looking to make that one my next purchase. I was on a Koontz-buy-a-thon that ended a year and a half ago. I guess I have some catching up to do. :cool:

It's better than Odd Thomas, but then again... everything is better than The Sixth Sense, oops, I mean Odd Thomas.

Yeah, there are some errrr..... similarities.

I still managed to enjoy it. So you're probably not interested in the second Odd Thomas book coming out later this year.

I am a Koontz fan but I absolutely hated this. :mad: It annoyed me from the beginning, with its 16-page descriptions of rain, its characterless "characters" and its undeveloped "plot" (and the crap ending). In fact, I hated everything about it. Avoid at all costs.

The last Koontz book I really enjoyed was Intensity. I have probably missed the last three or so books, I'll plan on missing one more in all likelihood. :D This "Odd Thomas" series reminds me of the albino character that he had-in my honest opinion, those were THE worst books he's ever written. Hopefully he'll tinker with the formula a bit, I don't know. I'll have to grab a Cussler book or something. Thanks for the feedback. :)
 
Good to know about the Taking, I was just looking at that today and almost got it, now I'm glad I didn't.
 
I just couldn't finish odd thomas. I tried but after about 10 chapters I returned it to the library. So far that is the only Koontz book I didn't like.

That's too bad. I enjoyed that book. I suppose it's an advantages of having a simple mind.
