Maybe he was posting as a member and not as a moderator when he made that post, if you remember that bullshit. ;)
That was the reason I didn't just write a PM to Wabbit about it. I already knew what the reply would be.

Get some more mods and make them more consistent in their rulings. I would like to see the active members of the forum nominate and chose the new moderators.
Both Ell and Wabbit have said they're looking into hiring more moderators, so let's hope the new ones will be appointed soon.

I havent personally had a problem with any of the moderators or anything they have done so far on here. They have also been very polite and decent in their dealings with me.

I know that messageboard moderators can at times be inconsistent and self-serving, it seems to go with the territory sometimes.

I think they key to being a good moderator is not to be too ego driven, i.e flexing you muscles all the time or being too much of a nanny. Also, constantly moving peoples posts is a bit unfair unless it's really neccesary.

Things should not be deleted out of hand. There is nothing more frustrating than a thread with a lot of good stuff being deleted simply because of the behaviour of a few. When people put time and energy into their posts that should be respected.

Rather than being overly confrontational or aggressive when dealing with problem posters, often a quiet PM can suffice. Warnings should be for repeated acting out and banning should be a last resort for people constantly posting personal attacks or material or links unsuitable for the forum.

The bans dont always have to be permanent either, they could be 24 hour cool off bans or 7 day bans with permanent bans for those who really deserve it, including spammers.

I dont think vitriolic personal abuse is acceptable at all and it should be stamped out on here before it becomes a real problem. And it should be kept off of here.

None of that which is required is brain surgery, just common sense.

In a way, it is necessary, because with as much posts as this forum generates daily, you have to keep things organised.

but I wonder how the other, not so outspoken members feel about this.

By this standard, the thread still has zero posts.
I wanted to stay out of this, but as I don't consider myself to be an "outspoken" member, here's my two cents.

The reason you don't hear from the less outspoken members about this issue is because they don't really come into contact with the mods. I don't usually even think of the mods as moderators most of the time, and I think this is the way it should be.

Personally, there have been 3 cases in which I've actually thought about moderation:

  1. I wrote a PM to a mod in regard to a thread that I thought was spam and needed to be looked at. I received a prompt reply that they were discussing it.

  2. I wrote a PM to a different mod in regard to a post by a member to a newbie which I thought was offensive to the new member. Again, I received a prompt reply that it would be discussed.

  3. Every time these threads start up about 'what's wrong with TBF' and 'what's wrong with the moderation'.
While I don't think it should be 'taboo' to talk about the way moderation on the forum works, I also think that there's one hell of a lot of overreaction to it. In my opinion, if you've a problem with the mods or moderation in regard to what you, personally, have experienced, then deal with the mods in regard to it. Airing your dirty laundry on forum threads is, in my opinion, not a very classy thing to do, and is unlikely to help the situation in the end. It leads me to wonder if those that do are actually after solutions, or just wish to generate conflict.

I think some issues have been raised, and the moderators are looking at solutions. I think the best thing to do at this stage is sit back and wait for a response, and go about your business on the forum as usual. Insighting an environment of enmity and hostility doesn't really help anyone.

yes it's neccesary at times but on some forums mods move things when theres no need, thats all I'm getting at.

I feel that Wabbit, I have no problems with other moderators, doesn't take anything anyone says on board. A typical response from him is:

"I don't agree. You may think that but I'm a moderator and as such we discuss these things and make our decisions."

It's not about whether he agrees. It's the equivalent of saying "I've made up my mind and I'm not even listening to your point anyway."

The thing which annoys me most is the fact that as a response to most complaints you recieve the answer that the mods are looking into it, but you are never told what happens next.

The library isn't working since April and the "book of the month" section on the main page hasn't been updated since January. There have been several complaints in the feedback section as well as some pms concerning the problem and still nobody fixed it.

You know what Wabbit reminds me of, The Postman. With that in mind, let's hear from Darren from his mouth. Thank you.

EDIT: opps, this should go in the save bobby thread or stay here, whatever.

One of the problems with the moderation here is that right now it seems very much as if Wabbit is in charge. I do not trush Wabbit as a moderator
I think this isn't completely fair. Wabbit is simply the moderator who's online most often, so very frequently, it is he who has to justify the moderator's decisions when someone (again) questions them.

This is the 'What is wrong with the moderation'-thread, not the 'What is wrong with Wabbit'-thread. Treat it as such.

And if they are one and the same?

The moderators work together, and therefore share responsibility. One mod cannot be the bud of all problems.

I disagree with that. It's quite easy for one person to influence others when it's in a small group.

Against Wabbit as a moderator, yes. Not so much personal though.

I feel certain members are making this personnel as they dont like to be told off! But if you are big enough to cause all the shit, take it on the chin! Stop moaning about it and get on with it!

I don't have anything against Wabbit, I have something agaist Wabbit as a moderator. But since Wabbit IS a moderator he should behave accordingly and this does slip for him from time to time, and he calls on the "I'm just a human defence".
I don't mind playing peacefully with Wabbit, I simply doesn't think he should be a mod.
