Richard Bachman: Blaze

Hitting the stores near you on June 12.

This one better be good, since he's writing under the pseuydoum Richard Bachman, and Richard tends to be unflinching like Ketchum.

If King's horrid style seeps into his writing like an insidious bacteria, I'm done with King altogether.

I thought Richard Bachman died from "cancer of the pseudonym, a rare form of schizonomia". :p

Edit: Oops! Nevermind! It's a found Bachman book apparently.

I had no idea that he published under that name. You learn something new every day.

Oh? I think you should definitely read "The Long Walk."
It's not too long & it's absolutely amazing! It's my favorite Bachman book... and I think my boyfriend said that was his favorite Stephen King book altogether.

Also, there's another Bachman book that is no longer in print (but you can still find it at used bookstores) called "The Rage" or "Rage"... King actually requested that it no longer be published in light of all the school shootings that were happening around the mid to late 90s..
It's a good one too.
You can actually find a collection of these books at a used bookstore: "The Bachman Books" - contains Rage, Long Walk, The Running Man (Like the Schwarzenegger movie), & Roadwork.

I'm with eyez. I much prefer the US cover.
I too thought King had laid Bachman to rest. Glad I was mistaken.

Yea, those sucked tho.

If this one turns out to be like one of those, I doubt I will even read King's next novel, Duma Key, coming in January 8, 2008.

I thought King retired. C'mon man, put down the pen for christ sake. Stop feeding the masses with your spoiled meat. Stop rambling on with your drivel.

I am not going to try and tell you that King is currently at the peak of his writing. That would not be true. I think he reached his peak when he wrote 'The Stand'.

However, I offer these as possible reasons why Mr King's writing has taken a downturn in the last few years.
I think it may have to do with 'the accident' where he was struck by the van and thrown through the air. He was severely hurt, I understand. Also, (and this is just a theory) when a writer like King has already made so many millions of dollars, perhaps the hunger and the drive is not there as it once was.

I can't claim these things are fact, except for the accident, of course. I only offer them up as possible reasons.

Guilty...I haven't been keeping up on his newer stuff.

I figure even on a bad day, King can probably scare the heck out of you, anyway. (lol)

Hi newer stuff is nowhere near as good as his older books, but IDK... I have a real affinity to King because he introduced me to reading, I think. My first "adult novel" was Cujo, which I read at 11, and it scared the living crap out of me. It also made me hungry to read more, so I feel like I owe Stephen King for introducing me to one of life's joys. Does that sound weird?

I was prepared to be let down by Lisey's Story, but I liked it. I know some of his newer works do indeed suck--THe Cell comes to mind--but now and again he still has what it takes. For me anyway.

He's older now. The young Stephen King who liked to throw in those "**** You," moments in all his novels has now become an old man with a family. Sure, he can still be dark and griddy, but he's become laid back, and his newer work is still good, just of a different style. Cell was a fun read, just not memorable. Lisey's Story was a horribly paced novel, but still in the long run something that I won't forget for a long time. Now The Stand...I don't know. There's something surreal about that novel.

I totally agree. The pace of Lisey's Story got to me in the beginning, but the story itself latched on. The Stand is one of my all time favorites. Just a fantastic read.
