    How well read are you?

I've read way too many to count - I have read 85 this year. I read whenever I can, my house is filled with books. (however, Bookgatherer up there with the book a day has me in awe!!). I would like to just take a month off of work and do nothing but read. Not everything that I read is...

    Janet Dailey: Legacies

I won't read anything of Janet Dailey's anymore. I used to read her years ago, but after she was charged with plagarism, I have never touched another of her books. I am really surprised that another publisher touched her after that.

    Currently Reading

I am in the middle of Marian Keyes - Rachel's Holiday. All of Marian Keyes books are a hoot. She's a British author, the books are all pretty long - 600 pages or more, but they're quick reads and very enjoyable. My next read will be Blow Fly - Patricia Cornwell, that I just picked up at the...

Who is your favourite author, and why?

I don't think I can narrow it down to one, I would have to vote for Harlan Coben - I discovered him with Final Detail, which is one of the later books featuring Myron Bolitar, after reading all of the Myron books I then got into his more recent ones and loved them more. I'm also a big Grisham...

Now I am going to start Catcher in the Rye. I was torn between Catcher and To Kill a Mockingbird (trying to read those books on that BBC list), but I couldn't find my copy of Mockingbird, so Catcher it is.

Recommendations for my first James Patterson novel

DiamondIce - I'll bet one was a number of pages for hardcover and another for paperback of Beach House. Trust me. It's an extremely quick read - he has huge spaces when he only has two or three pages per chapter. There's a lot of blank page. I have the hardcover version (Well actually my...

    Have you met any authors?

In addition to my earlier post, I did meet Ann Marie MacDonald tonight - she read from her new book, and was terrific, so lively and comical. I am shelving the other book I was reading and diving into this one.

Recommendations for my first James Patterson novel

Many of James Patterson's books feature Alex Cross. While you don't really have to read them in order, there is a sequence of events. His books are famous for short short chapters. One that I really enjoyed, not with Alex Cross, was Beach House, the one you mentioned. It was really good and...

What fiction book do you keep reading over and over?

Most books I don't read over. I have so many other books waiting to be read, I don't want to waste time. I have read Anne of Green Gabels multiple times, as well as Tom Sawyer, Texas series from Fern Michaels. I want to go back and read "Fall on your Knees" again after hearing Ann Marie...

Never judge a book by it's cover, or should you?

I must admit, I do sometimes just a book by its cover. Some books I will not touch because the cover turns me off. However, I always thought Maeve Binchy's covers were about the ugliest going until I got into reading her books, and I love them! Books with lake views, or cottages or Muskoka...

    BBC's The Big Read - Top 100

I think I get the booby prize - I only hit 11. However, I own about 40 more of them, so I really should get busy!!! I am not really sure what I am saving them for!

I also read John Grisham. I have read everything that he has written except "The Chamber". I loved everything he wrote in his earlier years. After that, it seemed like every second one rather bored me. And "Bleachers" is just brutal, unless you like football perhaps, which I don't...

    Philip Pullman: His Dark Materials

I just bought Amber in the Spyglass at the used book library sale - I didn't know it was a trilogy. I suppose they need to be read in order?

    Mystic River

I haven't seen the movie yet, but am anxiously looking forward to it. Mystic River was probably one of my top books for the year.

I second Dano with Michael Connelly or Janet Evanovich. Also, Robert Crais, Sue Grafton, Dennis Lehane.

    Stephen King

I love his older books so much more than his newer releases, I have yet to read "The Stand" (it's sooo long, but it's on my "to read" pile). I loved Firestarter, Christine, Carrie, Dead Zone, Cujo. I am not terribly fond of his short story collections, but then again, I am not terribly fond of...
