I really couldn't hazard a guess how many books I've read in my lifetime (and no, contrary to rumours, I am not Methusaleh's sister!) - but I am fairly 'fussy' about what I read. I have TRIED to read people like Dickens and Walter Scott, for instance - but have yet to finish anything by either...

People tell me that I look a lot like Jane Asher - but I don't suppose that will mean anything to non-UK natives, or even UK natives who are very young.... ;) :D Personally, I think it's just that we have the same hair colour!

I'm not a great fan of Stephen King - but I really liked The Stand. I've read it a couple of times. It's a great morality tale, but he kills off a couple of the heroes at odd times in the book - it really jars when you are so wrapped up in a character (I'm not saying who is killed-off!!)

Quentin Jardine is another of my favourite Scottish mystery authors - he has written a number of novels (12 or 13 at the last count) mostly about Police Chief Constable Bob Skinner. Jardine's novels are set in Edinburgh and although I prefer Ian Rankin, I also enjoy Jardine's books.

This is a set of 5 novels by a Scottish author called Paul Johnston. Like Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus novels, his books are set in Edinburgh but in the 'near' future (2020s). They are set in a Dystopian time and in essence are police thrillers. http://www.paul-johnston.co.uk/books/quint.htm

Ian Rankin is a Scottish writer. He writes great police crime novels and his 'hero' is Inspector John Rebus, a maverick police inspector who drinks too much and is often in the 'bad books' of the police hierarchy in Edinburgh. His books are so well written. Reading them is a bit like taking...

Dickens and Sir Walter Scott - I've picked up so many of their novels... started the books and found them sooooooo boringly written (not the story, the writing style!) that I have never completed a novel by either author :D

I'd like to meet in the Oxford Bar (a real pub in Edinburgh) with Inspector John Rebus. He's my kind of man :D
