Best line from a song

Jenem

kickbox
What do you consider the best line from a song?

I have 2 favorites:

1) "it's so deep it's meaningless" from So Hard Done By - The Tragically Hip
2) "if you're so special, why aren't you dead?" from I Just Wanna Get Along - The Breeders

"there are problems in these times, but wooooooooooooooooohhh!!!! none of them are mine!" -- beginning to see the light, lou reed and the velvet underground.

I'm a cold heartbreaker
Fit ta burn and I'll rip your heart in two
An I'll leave you lyin' on the bed
I'll be out the door before ya wake
It's nuthin' new ta you
'Cause I think we've seen that movie too

'Cause you could be mine
But you're way out of line
With your bitch slap rappin'
And your cocaine tongue
You get nuthin' done
I said you could be mine

How am I supposed to resist this?

Here's a few, but it's inevitable that I will have to edit this later:

"Just because you're gay, I won't turn you away
If you stick around, I'm sure that we can find some common ground" -- Billy Bragg, "Sexuality"

"No one taught us how to be politically correct, and no one told our winkles what to wear" -- Ian Hunter "My Revolution"

"I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them, but they were only satelites" Billy Bragg, "A New England"

"Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly
And the Spiders From Mars
He played it left hand, but made it too far; became the special man
Then we were Ziggy's band" -- David Bowie, "Ziggy Stardust" (In fact, you could put the whole song here -- it's wonderful)

"I never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity, watch me screw up this one too" -- Ian Hunter, "Too Much"

"We tripped the light fandango, spun cartwheels cross the floor; I was feeling kinda seasick, the crowd yelled out for more" -- Procol Harem, "A Whiter Shade of Pale"

Irene Wilde*

*Oops, that reminds me: "Smile through your shock, as you hear your name out loud, it's just that face in the crowd, I didn't dig, I'm much too proud" -- Ian Hunter, "Irene Wilde"

Heres a couple I couldn't resist... I know its not just one line... but they all fit together to make perfection...

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs,
I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there,
Over my shoulder a piano falls,
crashing to the grououououounnd... (REM - Great Beyond)

The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
The lamest of the lame
The numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
You choke behind a smile
A fake behind the fear (Garbage - Queer)

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Whack for my daddy-o
Whack for my daddy-o
There's whiskey in the jar-o (Metallica - Whiskey in the jar)

Oh and I forgot...

if flesh could crawl
my skin would fall
from off my bones and run away from here (Garbage - As Heaven is Wide) :D

Anything by The Smiths or Morrissey of course!

"You're not right in the head, and nor am I, and this is why I like you."

"Don't blame the sweet and tender hooligan, 'cos he swore that he'd never never do it again, and of course he won't; not until the next time."

"When you sleep I will creep into your room like a bad debt that you can't pay - take the easy way and give in."

"I didn't realise that you wrote poetry, I didn't realise that you wrote such bloody awful poetry."

"Coyness is nice, and coyness can stop you from doing all the things in life you'd like to. So if there's something you'd like to try, ask me, I won't say No, how could I."

:)

Feelin on yo booty, yo booty,
yo booty, yo boo-oo
Feelin on yo booty,yo booty, yo booty,yo booty
yo boo-ooty, booty
ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba,ba, ba-ooty, - R. Kelly

Leon is one of the best films ever!!

Anyway, lyrics:

The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had. -- Mad World by Gary Jules, taken from the Donnie Darko-OST.

Cheers

I love that song! It's by Sting, btw. Shape of my Heart may be the name of it, can't remember exactly.

How you turned my world, you precious thing
You starve and near exhaust me
Everything I’ve done, I’ve done for you
I move the stars for no one

You’ve run so long
You’ve run so far

Your eyes can be so cruel
Just as I can be so cruel

David Bowie - Within You

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping.

What can you see?
On the horizon.
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come
To carry you home.

And all will turn to silver glass.
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the west.

Annie Lennox - Into the West

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky!
As someone told me lately:
"Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly!"
And if I'm flying solo
At least I'm flying free
To those who'd ground me
Take a message back from me
Tell them how I am
Defying gravity
I'm flying high
Defying gravity
And soon I'll match them in renown
And nobody in all of Oz
No Wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!

Defying Gravity from the Broadway musical Wicked

It's so hard to choose just one line, or even just one song. Here's one for my Irish relatives: :)

Irish Blood, English heart this I'm made of
There is no one on Earth I'm afraid of
And no regime can buy or sell me

Morrissey - Irish Blood, English Heart
