Least read book

I am not suprised at all. The Catholic Church is just climbing on the politically correct wagon on this issue. They are just trying to keep from losing more of their membership, since they won't bend on some of the other issues.
Look at the recent bruhaha amongst the Southern Baptists over the same issue. This fight over the inerrancy of scriptures has been raging for centuries. Fortunately it isnt so common to start wars over it, but the debate rages. It is very common to hear of Protestant pastors saying they don't believe in the virgin birth of Christ, or in a world-wide flood, or a literal 6-day creation..My church is in the
last stages (we HOPE) of searching for a pastor, so we've had to pay attention to a lot of belief statements on a lot of resumes..So this issue is very much on our minds.

Torah

(TOH-ruh, TAWR-uh, TOY-ruh) The law on which Judaism is founded (torah is Hebrew for “law”). This law is contained in the first five books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). Torah can also refer to the entire body of Jewish law and wisdom, including what is contained in oral tradition.

So I had it backwards I guess. I remember seeing a chart that compared the books side by side online but I can't track it down at the moment.

This is getting a bit too close to discussing religion

Talking about the Bible with regards to reading and the individual books is fine, but talking about Catholicism is going a bit too far :)

Lol - no thats fine - perhaps someone could PM you the answer (and me as I'm curious now :p )

The First 5 books of the Old Testament ARE the Torah, I believe.
I was thinking more on the lines of translation - how does the Torah compare with, let's say, the Kings James version of the bible. Showing my ignorance here as I am assuming there is only one translation of the Torah. Whereas there are many translations of the Bible as christians know it.

You may not be able to read the Bible straight through, but Norman Mailer's work: Son of God does a great job of breaking everything in the New Testament down to a smooth, readable form. Now if only Norman could do the same thing with the Old Testament!. :D

I bet he could make a deal with the folks who made the genealogical family tree for Jesus. It traces his family line through Mary, and really helps idjits like me understand why so many of those begats are in the OT! I've seen a poster of this in Christian Bookstores. It looks nice too.

I heard from a lot of people that they didn't finish 'Everything is Illuminated' by Jonathan Safran Foer. Most of them were German, though, so it might be just the translation.

really? i still have a copy of that sitting on my bookshelf.. the past two and a half years.. aha.. well my sister techincally bought it. i keep putting off reading it.

among the honors classes in my school, its definatly The Jungle even though its well known. a lot of people, including myself, didn't read the last three chapters where Sinclar shoves socialism in our faces.

I suggest you put off reading it forever - it's a pile of toss and a complete mess of a book.
