... a few words of peace? Maybe you know a few words which will offer a little comfort to us all and to our small planet? Maybe somethng that you especially love? It couldn't hurt right about now.

Each moment is a chance
for us to make peace
with the world,
to make peace possible
for the world,
to make happiness
possible for the world.

Freedom of Choice

Devo / A Perfect Circle (song lyrics) said:
A victim of collision on the open sea
Nobody ever said that life was free
Sank, swam, go down with the ship
But use your freedom of choice

Ill say it again in the land of the free
Use your freedom of choice
Your freedom of choice

In ancient rome there was a poem
About a dog who found two bones
He picked at one
He licked the other
He went in circles
He dropped dead

Freedom of choice
Is what you got
Freedom of choice!

Then if you got it you dont want it
Seems to be the rule of thumb
Dont be tricked by what you see
You got two ways to go

Ill say it again in the land of the free
Use your freedom of choice
Freedom of choice

Freedom of choice
Is what you got
Freedom of choice!

In ancient rome
There was a poem
About a dog
Who found two bones
He picked at one
He licked the other
He went in circles
He dropped dead

Freedom of choice
Is what you got
Freedom from choice
Is what you wan

A little something from one of America's founding fathers:

I hope our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us, that the less we use our power the greater it will be.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

Peace and friendship with all mankind is our wisest policy, and I wish we may be permitted to pursue it.
Thomas Jefferson

There is no greater misfortune than underestimating your enemy.

Underestimating your enemy means thinking he is evil.

Thus you destroy your three treasures and become an enemy yourself.

I forgot one: pillow. Trampoline, at a push.

So, what's the point of this thread? How does it fall into the discussion category?

If you must know, this forum's General Discussion appears to be in some sort of downward spiral.

When I first joined, if you did not check in more than once a day there would be pages, and pages of "new posts" to read. Now, well there might be 15-20 new posts in any given 24 hour period.

Whether or not that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on your point of view.

There has been a distinct change in TBF/BAR, and it certainly carries over into General Chat.

I won't say any more as I know it really rubs some people the wrong way when somebody makes a statement that is not all warm and fuzzy about this place.

edit: I've come to the conclusion that this very thought process I refer to above is what has lead to the idea of creating a "Mature Discussion" area where politics and religion can be openly discussed.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I'm still at a loss as to the reason for this thread. We already have a pointless one for quotes with no context; do we really need two?

To paraphrase a friend:

"Make the kinds of posts you wish to read."

Come on Stewart if you don't see a point just leave it alone. If this thread is valuable in some way to some people let it be just that.

What was that? Five down in your cryptic crossword?

You want to come to a forum and read posts of quotes? Just go here.

And I made the kinds of posts I wanted to read there'd be a lot of unhappy faces and the thread would then be deleted. ;)

This seems only fitting:

War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War! Whoa, Lord ...
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?

War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
Peace Love and Understanding;
tell me, is there no place for them today?
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way

War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
You tell me
Say it, Say it, Say it

War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Stand up and shout it.
Nothing!

Edwin Starr

My offering.

We need a war
We need a war to show‘em
We need a war to show‘em that we can
We need a war to show‘em that we can do it
Whenever we say we need a war…

If they mess with us
If we think they might mess with us
If we say they might mess with us
If we think we need a war, we need war

Chorus
We need a war,
If we think we need a war.
We need a war.
If we think we need a war.

A war to make us feel safe,
A war to make‘em feel sorry.
Whoever they are…..

If they mess with us
If we think they might mess with us
If we say they might mess with us
If we think we need a war, we need war

Chorus

Can we do it?
Sure we can.

We need a war.
We need a war.
We need a war.

"We Need a War" - Fischerspooner.
