Your Favourite Things...

Marquis Rex

New Member
Hello,
I thought it might be fun for people to list some of their favourite things (as many as you want) and help me to get to know a few of you. May be we will learn something about one another from it. It can be anything except people esp fellow forumers!

So here goes:

Listening to my Pink Floyd Albums with the candles lit in my house

driving, washing, cleaning the first car I ever bought in 1990 which I still own with its chome gleaming, a late 1970s BMW 323i, complete with a redesigned "Rex" engine

HELPING and listening to others, especially those that seem to be where I once was....

Old classic 50/60s Sci Fi

Putting good tales/novel-story plans together, either via dictaphone or scribings

Hearing the sibilant-hum-turn-strident-agressive-snarl of a straight six engine: Old 2 valve BMWs are best closely followed by old XK engined Jaguar E types.

Thinking of ANY time of my University years...especially the first year.

Listening to my old dictaphone messages from times that were turbulent

reading old poems that either I wrote or that were once given to me that hark back to special times or remind me of someone special

Cats and kittens hiding in my Jungle like gardens

The feeling at the very begining of a collossal road trip, preferrably taking off in the middle of the night- where nothing is planned, Just me, a big V8 engine up front, a desire to point the bonnet toward the horizon, my credit cards ready, plenty of Cds and plenty of time

The ability to go into bars while travelling-not knowing anyone, honing my people skills-making new connections/friends, find commonalties , bond and then leave- take off not having to put up with the inevitable betrayals, arrogance, pain associated with most human relationships.

The feeling of pride I get whenever I see any Jaguar 1997 to date that I had a part in developing

Star Trek - all from TOS to VOY - STILL gives me inspiration even today and some take me back...

Driving my Porsche 928, moshing to my Nirvanna music or hearing/seeing the burbley deep V8 reverberate off the glass windows of Hamstead!

La-Gaffe my favourite cafe in Hampstead

My pictures of my road trip 2001, Melissa (an ex) and the special times I had....

My pictures from Sweden 2002 and Charlotte (my last ex G/F)...

My cats, Emmie & Gracie.

My books.

My computer/weblog....it keeps me occupied.

The feeling after I've just had a great workout.

Sleeping with the window open and a nice cool breeze through my window.

The autumn morning sun as it filters through my windows.

Long walks on a nice day.

The pleasure of buying a new book that I've wanted.

Oatmeal.

My friends, especially those I've kept from high school and from chemE in college.

Watching plants grow.

My blue jeans.

My education (all of it).

My wife and kids.

Living vicariously through my son's soccer play.

My two Australian Shepherds, Star and Comet

Reading in the shade of a tree in the summer.

Watching The Breakfast Club

80s "new wave" music.

Starbucks triple shot venti caramel machiato.

Star gazing while camping.

Summer thunderstorms.

Fresh Colorado Rocky Mountain air.

Crayon coloring with my daughter.

Watching the Colorado Avalanche

Looking forward to my wife having our third child.

Ice Cream Floats.

Good conversation.

Taking the day off to do absolutely nothing.

Snow storms.

Not necessarily in that order......

Rex, you own a lot of cars. I'm so jealous. So, to things that make me happy:

My new (to me) VW Cabrio. I've wanted a red convertible since I was 14, and now I have one.

Spending Saturday afternoons in bookstores (obviously)

Board games, especially when I win. :D

Poker. Only play for chips, though.

Reading 3 books in a weekend.

Chocolate.

Coffee. Especially a machiato after a good dinner.

Red wine.

Dressing up and going out dancing.

Giving advice, especially when someone actually acts on it. Sharing my opinion with others on any topic makes me happy, generally.

Cuddling up on rainy afternoons under a quilt.

Watching my cat play catch with a toy mouse.

So many things... :)

Ashlea- I'm a self confessesed "petrol head"! Always have been ever since I was about 5 or 6! Fortunately it's an addiction that has benefitted my career enormously!
I Love VW Beetles ( the old kind) my earliest memories were of the one my father had and I owned one for a while!

Um....fave things....Ok:

Reading(surprise)

Writing (i absolutely suck but i enjoy doing it so who cares)

Listening to music

cycling in the New Forest (there are some tracks out in the forest which lead right to this fantastic waterfall, miles from anywhere right amongst some oaks, brilliant)

Sunset out on the Solent (for anyone not familiar with the geography of the South of Engalnd, the Solent is the name for the sea between the south coast and the Isle of Wight, cracking for topper sailing)

Sailing(not for a few years as my boat sank, long story but it involved a sand dune, a flood and one huge wave)

eating (mmm...ice cream)

dreaming(never can remeber what)

painting(mostly water colour, I again suck at this)

College

Movies(the cinema is my temple)

Hoping(I'm currently hoping to go to New Zealand as it looks amazing)

Family (the folks I love the best)

Friends(they can really get annoying espeacilly when we all have exams, but I love 'em so no harm done)

Hiking(did Snowdon in Wales a year back, best experience i've ever had)

books(I collect them, currently have about 400, my prized possesion being a 1867 copy of Nicholas Nickleby by Dickens, slightly marred by the fact that some previous owner managed to spill coffee all over the first few pages making it utterly worthless, but still a great piece of literature)

My yearbook of my old secondary school

My first ever painting (done at age 3, a swirling mass of purple and green paint, could probably pass it off as modern art)

Probably loads more but my eyes are having trouble staying open and I've got a class in classics in a bit so I'd better stop. Bye.

Can anybody tell me why I hear Julie Andrews singing when I view this thread? lol

Damn voices in the head...

SillyWabbit

I've go them on DVD. Jeunet's other films Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children contain the same magic while we've not seen much of Run Lola's Frank Potente for a while - still haven't watched The Princess & The Warrior.

Personally, I've enjoyed Audition, Battle Royale, Irreversible amongst others. Julio Medem films, too and the films made under the rules of the Dogme manifesto (i.e. The Idiots and Italian for Beginners)

Current favourite things:

The mahogany-brown leather of my little ankle boots.

Driving to the sound of the White Stripes ‘Ball & Biscuit’ – the guitar, the lyrics and that thrilling, threatening voice.

Third Man Girl

oooo, uplifting thread

Eating dinner with my husband.

I just got DSL. I love not having dial-up anymore:)

Dancing to intoxicating music (with no one watching)

Vacationing in Mexico, by the ocean, with nothing on the agenda but reading, sleeping, eating, and getting wet

good coffee

popcorn

reading blogs and keeping my own (it keeps me occupied, too)

shoe shopping

having a good run (I'm periodically achy, so a good run is always special)

beer (lovely day for a Guinness)
&Cabernets

Serena the Affectionate Cat

Other people's pets, too.

going to the movies

those mochochino shakes over at Rita's
