how long does it normaly take you to read a normal sized book? it usualy
takes me abput a month to read a normal 300 pg book.

It takes me about two or three days to read that on average, depending on how much time I can devote to reading it. Harry Potter takes me about a day per book with the long ones. I read about a page and a half per minute.

It depends on how long I have. I usually take about a week at the moment because of school and being online, but I can finish a 300 page book in a day or two if I'm really into it and don't have anything else on the agenda.

For an average 200-300 page book - a week to two weeks. When I am not working, 1-3 days. I figure my working rate will increase after a year or two more of teaching, when I am not working on lesson plans or grading. I know this will pick up nearer to the end of the year, as I am almost done with lesson plans for the year (I plan ahead).

When I am reading books to judge which ones I want to use in my reading class, I can read several a day (on my third of the day).

your a teacher? what grade? just out of curiosity

For me, it depends on what else is going on and what sort of book I'm reading. Some can be buzzed through in a matter of wee hours and others have to be read in small doses, with plenty of time to chew over what I just read. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell took over a week just because the silly book was too long:p First Circle by Solzhenitsyn took that long because there was a lot to digest and I was busy.

It normally takes me anywhere from a couple hours to about a week. Like I read "Dhampir", a 325 page book in 7 hours, but it took me nearly a week and a half to read its nearly equal paged sequel.

I would say it would take me about a week. Between kids and work, it is hard to read as often as I would like to finish it sooner.

It depends on the book really, doesn't it? Last year, at some points, I was reading a book a day, with the books, on average, being around the 200 page mark. Now, the book I'm reading just now is less than 300 pages but the prose is so dense that it has taken over a week to read just 130 pages. So it depends on the typecase, the prose density (you could probably rip through a 500 page techno-hardon by Matthew Reilly in 5 mins) and the frame of mind you are in.

Gotta agree with Stewart. It takes me forever to labor through ones that are boring or that is somewhat dense to read. When reading It, I averaged 200 pages a day. I'm on a 340 page book now, and I'm averaging about 70 pages every other day. Interest is a biggie with me.

You're both right..and throw in a sinus headache and it can take a looooooong time to finish anything:(

For me it depends on the book. If I love it, I read fast, if I don't, the mind wanders.

One of my neon signs that it might be time to ditch a book is if the idea of washing my hair is more appealing than reading another chapter in the book:p

I would agree with you that it depends on the density of the book....I was giving an average. And a sinus headache...how do you even read?

I must admit, I look pretty goofy holding my book in one hand and doing a Vulcan mind pinch on my eye, trying to apply counter pressure. Did you know it IS possible to read and squint at the same time? The real challenge is refraining from biting off the heads of children so foolish as to get loud while I'm doing all of the above...:p

I agree with having to be interested, sometimes you can lose a whole day to a book and not realise until you have to switch on a lightbulb to continue!

I think a lot of the time my rate increases as I move through the book. I kind of trawl the first sections, getting to know characters, plot etc. When the action (so to speak) picks up, I spend a lot longer reading at a faster pace.

I long for one of those days...

I am on my second book this year. I'm a slow reader. However I finished book number 1 in record time, I think less than 10 days and I was done. So what if it was only 220 pages. :)
