The Amber Spyglass - Philip Pullman

The top two I don't know much about but they seemed good. The other three I pretty much know all about and I'm excited to get to them.

All these for a grand total of.... $2.50!!!:D I love the Salvation Army.;)

Nice price indeed. The Amber Spyglass is actually the final book in a trilogy and you'll want to read the first two first because it is an excellent trilogy. The Northern Lights (also known as The Golden Compass) and The Subtle Knife. ;) Enjoy.

Went to the Salvation Army yesterday and left the store with a very heavy backpack.

The Amber Spyglass - Philip Pullman
The Great Fire - Shirley Hazzard
Until I Find You - John Irving
I Am Charlotte Simmons - Tom Wolfe
The Mists of Avalon - Marion Zimmer Bradley

Lucky you. I wouldn't mind paying that amount of money for five paperbacks.
The Mists of Avalon is a classic. One of the best fantasy books I've ever read. I Am Charlotte Simmons isn't bad. It's really funny in some parts but the characters are too stereotypical and underdeveloped.

Just picked up at the library:

Pnin-Vladimir Nabakov

Might Fitz:The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald-Michael Schumacher
(I'm already hearing Gordon Lightfoot in my good ear;) )

Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte
The Book of the Dead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
and I just borrowed Jude the Obscure from my parents' library

The Book of the Dead was amazing, the best book I've read so far this year.
I'm now reading Agnes Grey, which I've been wanting to read for quite some time, and it's great so far. :)

My secondhand haul of the day, and I restrained myself this time because I really ran out of room a while ago.

Paperweight - Stephen Fry (£2.00)
Lasher - Anne Rice (£2.00)
Girl, Interrupted - Susanne Kaysen (£2.00)
The Abortionist's Daughter - Elisabeth Hyde (£1.59)
The Works of Oscar Wilde - Oscar Wilde (£2.50, great price for a huge book with a lovely cover and only some slight water damage and curvature of the spine :p)
Scar Tissue - Anthony Kiedis and Larry Sloman (£4.95, a bit pricey for a second hand book but its a hardcover and the temptation was too strong)

Quite pleased with myself. My collection really is getting big though, as once I add my old Beatrix Potter collection and my other childhood books from my attic I'll be closing in on 400 books. I wouldn't dare get rid of any either. :D

I went for a walk with my mom on Sunday and...wouldn't ya know there was a Barnes and Noble in the area. :D

They had a green dot sale so I picked up two of those and one regular priced book.

Then today after class I hit up the Salvation Army...again. That's twice in about a week....tisk tisk on me.

I've calculated it in my head and at this rate I think I'm reading 2-3 books for every 10 I buy!! Right now I'm reading books I bought months (years!) ago!! But....I can't....help it....such....good....deals. Must....buuuuuuy.;)

Salvation Army Buys

A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley
The Hours by Michael Cunningham
The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank
Grimm's Fairy Tales by Brother's Grimm

These were all brand spanking new. One still had the Border's sticker on it...it's as if the people who owned them didn't even read them before they gave them away...:( Total: $4.00.

Barnes and Noble Buys

From Russia with Love by Ian Fleming
Body in Question Brian Innes
The Encyclopedia of Weapons Ivan V. Hogg

Fleming's I got full price (there are very few authors that I am willing to shell out retail price worth's of money for). The other two were part of a green dot sale. Total: $17.52

I am vowing to not buy any new books til I start fall semester of school...it's gonna be hard...but I got so much to read!!:D :D :D

Duncton Wood~ William Horwood:) Decided to try it, and though I had low expectations, its actually really good! A used, but in good shape copy at a bookstore for $4.00. Its nice and thick too! I have the other 2 in the series on hold, as well as 'Castaways of the Flying Dutchman'.

The Borrowers~ Mary Norton
I already have a VERY VERY battered broken worn you-name-it copy, and I found this brand-new one for $2.00! And it was the same edition as my others in the series, so couldn't resist...:p

Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (softback, used)
A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley (hardback, used)

Both under $3 at a local used book store (The Book Barn). Boy I never knew that Cryptonomicon contained so many pages- 1152 pages to be precise.

It sure seems that way. :D

Now check this out: My b-day is next month and I hear that someone (?) will give me a $100 gift card from Barns & Noble. Yes! I hope it's true. Talk about a spending spree on books. Woo-hoo!!

That's freakin' awesome! I hope you get it too!

My recently purchased:
Comics:
1. Mystic Arcana: The Black Knight (Marvel Comics)
2. Focus on Star Trek (IDW)
3. Batman & Dracula: Red Rain (DC) by Doug Moench, Kelley Jones, Malcolm Jones III (he did a lot of work for Neil Gaiman's The Sandman), & Les Dorscheid
---
4. I Am Spock by Leonard Nimoy (this is what I'm currently reading now; had to set aside Stephen King's The Talisman - sorry Lenny!)

I bought these two today:

If you keep up your buying spree now, there won't be anything left for you to buy. If that happens, I would be willing to take the gift card off your hands. :D
