Pet Peeves

People who don't know the difference between 'of' and 'have'. You wouldn't write: 'I want a cup have tea', so don't write: 'He should of got it years ago'.

Indeed. Add to that people who do not know the difference between 'fewer' and 'less'. I may have less food on my plate than you, but you have fewer chips. And people who do not realise that the letter 'H' is not aspirated when used in acronyms.

I could go on. I often do...:)

True. But the latter is closer to correct than the former. What you might be hearing is actually the contraction "should've." In which case they are using the word have correctly. Say each out loud and they sound identical. I've also heard some people advocate mutually exclusive ways of writing English and speaking English.

I'll just start with two tonight...

People who think they know everything.
Procrastinators

Speaking of pet peeves in diction...

People who do not understand the difference between an adjective and an adverb.

People who tilt their head and give you a puzzled look and then ridicule you because you used a vocabulary word with more than 2 syllables.

People who try to use large words but use them incorrectly or out of context. I have a neighbor who does this all of the time. She'll hear me use a word, then try to use it herself. It drives me crazy, though I must admit, it is a bit amusing. The latest and greatest was myriad. I had fun with that one.

Motorists who think that indicators are an optional extra.
Amen.

People who walk through a door in front of you and just let it slam in your face instead of just holding it open for another second until you can grab the door. Common courtesy is dead, I tell you. Dead.

People who think that everything in the company fridge is theirs to sample and/or take.

my pet peave is when people talk about pet peaves XD

Nice. Good thing we are limited to writing about them. (cute wink face here)

-Clichés
-Small dogs (usually Chihuahuas) as accessories
-People who when driving on the freeway stay in the left lane when people behind them are trying to pass
-Litter

  • Annoying kids who selfishly play music on public transport (without earphones).

Absolutely! I despise this - I have no desire whatsoever to listen to your music. A lot of bus behaviour annoys me, it's been mentioned earlier but I hate it when elderly/pregnant people get on the bus and nobody stands up for them.

This might be to do with how much cruddy student living I've seen, but I can't bear it when plates get piled up in the sink, especially if they haven't had the food scraped off them...eurgh...actually don't get me started.

"Baby on Board" signs

I rarely find myself planning to ram the rear of the car in-front, and I can't say that seeing one of those signs makes me pause and pick another car to run off the road.

Should I have an equivalent sign "Old Git on Board, so feel free to hit me"?

I get really annoyed with clicking things...like pens. But, probably my biggest pet peave is moronic drivers. People who drive slow, don't know how to drive. It is really annoying. I wish that I could occasionally carry a gun with me and put it to use on certain days.

(I am in a "no patience today" day)

Emails that say......."if you don't send this to 10 people in ten days , you will have bad luck....

and my answer? F... ...
