October 2008 Book group suggestions

These are not votes, so don't worry. It's just a count of who mentioned what books to give us a sense of which books might carry the day in a poll; that is, if a poll is created at all. I'm not exactly sure how the selection is made, to tell you the truth. I think it's all done in secret in a smoke-filled room in the back.

I am with silverseason and we should definately add Uncle Tom's Cabin in as the next one. That would take care of four months. I have two copies of Uncle Tom's Cabin. One is the first European edition 1852 and the other is an Easton Press edition, so I am ready to go on that one. I have been curious about Dr. Glas. Am ok with Ironweed and very hopeful about Tender is the Night. So, in my book (pardon the obvious pun...) silverseason is the voice of reason ;)

If we choose the 3-4 books now , there will not be much discussion later.

We are ahead , which is good for those of us who have a hard time getting the books on time, but I would prefer to choose by month. As soon as October is chosen, we can make a November thread.
What do you think?
 
I like the month-to-month process. Besides, the forum might have newer members as time goes by, who may want to weigh in with their opinions. If we plan too far ahead, we'll be stuck reading BOTM selections made by last year's members (so to speak). I exaggerate, of course.
