I would like to see us do something to limit the number of suggestions. I was thinking three, but five is fine, too.

Three sounds better.

Anyone want to suggest a "genre" for December or should we just go with suggestions like before?

So we're not doing nonfiction in December? I don't have a problem with that since I rarely read books from that category. Anyway . . .

Fun Home by Alison Bechdel

Specimen Days by Michael Cunningham

Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk

We have had a few members asking about reading non-fiction, so why don't we discuss it?

If we go with nonfiction, we'd probably need to narrow it down to a specific genre or topic, such as biography or history, or cooking, etc. I've read some really great nonfiction books that actually managed to combine elements of all three very well...One Thousand Years Over a Hot Stove pops into my mind right off the bat.

I don't necessarily think this is true. I bet if we get some suggestions going we can get a really cool variety and go from there :D

Since this is the early stages of planning, it makes sense to me, to get an idea what the folks are interested in.. I can go with nearly anything with a historical slant..

  • [*]The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky
[*]In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
    [*]Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

I have only read one non-fiction and it was Joan. Even though I loved the book, and it has alot of discussion I would prefer to pick one from all your recomendations.

I would go for a historical non-fiction.:)

Here are three non fiction suggestions, all very different from one another:

Elizabeth Gaskell, The Life of Charlotte Bronte
Jared Diamond, Collapse
Vladimir Nabokov, Speak Memory

I like that same type of historical nonfiction and so for my third and final book suggestion I'll add this one as I've been wanting to order it for awhile now :) But I'm not sure if the book would have a wide appeal.
My Lady Scandalous: The Amazing Life and Outrageous Times of Grace Dalrymple Elliott, Royal Courtesan by Jo Manning
