Who is your favourite author, and why?

No Reason Why: Your Favorite Fiction Author...

...who is your favorite writer (any genre really- generally speaking). You are not required to justify why he/she is your favorite. Just post his/her name.

Thanks.

I go first :)whistling:):

Truman Capote

Bret Easton Ellis

I know he's been criticized for his anti-feminist imagination (i.e. American Psycho), but his detailed writing style and critical points about American popular culture make Ellis a fascinating read. Of course, I love Salinger, but I'd have to say that if I was put on the spot, it would be Bret Easton Ellis. And I highly recommend reading American Psycho - if you can stomach some of the violence.

I have a new favorite author.

I would have to say Jerry Dozier. He is a new author and his book was awesome for me. I could not put it down. The title of the book was Future's End Falcon's Redemption.

Before him, I would have to say Rawlings.

Re: "Hiya Jerry"

I do hope he reads this forum, cause I would like to shout out, HI! And ask, since he is a new author, can I be the president of his fan club....

who is your favorite author and why?

david benioff has got to be my favorite right now. "city of thieves," about the fall of leningrad, doesn't read like a fictionalized-history novel, but the main character feels like someone you could be pals with today. benioff's story is funny and compelling. each chapter is a gem of a short piece of literature.

where benioff and stephen king, for instance, create characters who feel three-dimensional to me, i find that the likes of john grisham and dan brown have cardboard cutout characters (who have, say, a couple of contrived ornamental flaws to follow the rules of writing.) that could be just me. i haven't read alot of grisham, but, well, it seems everyone else is, so i don't need to, lol.

fave author..

my favorite author are mitch albom..cecilia ahern and rosie childs..

because of their same outlook in life and the way they write..

they are very open minded and smart..

i love reading their books because the theme is about love and life..;)

Depends on what sort of book. For Crime, Ed McBain. For Humour, Terry Pratchett. For intellect, Boswell's Johnson. Childrens book, Richmal Crompton. Adventure, Walter Scott.

velocipede- wow. i am totally schooled. i'll definitely have to check out ed mcbain for the crime department, and look into these others...

i take back what i said about john grisham. despite my kneejerk attempt to be the iconoclast, i'm reading "a painted house," and i totally dig it.

Axisage. I'm sure you will enjoy all of Ed Mc Bain's 87th precinct novels. There used to be a tv series based on his novels which was great also. Like an early, Homicide life on the Streets.
