  • Uh, it would have had to have been in English. I grew up in Calgary, not much French goin' on there. And, alas, have yet to learn, but my work place is proving to be an immersion program. :)
The Trois couleurs series are the only works I have seen from him so far. Bleu basically catapulted Juliette Binoche's career. But those films are really his dénouement. I thought the idea of him working with, or more accurately through, young filmmakers, Europe's new cinema "royalty", was a wonderful idea. Heaven is one of these. I'm just really a Tom Tykwer fan. When you see Heaven keep in mind that the open score is by Tykwer, I think it really speaks to the care he gives his films.
Well no, I didn't not like it... yeah that's some terrible grammar. I'll probably get one of his other books soon. It just seemed too compact, but I could tell that he's a very good writer. I really love dialog and extensive scenery description that doesn't get too pretentious or poetic. I kind of felt that this book wanted to be part police report and part personal depiction and neither really shined.

Thanks though for the rec and I'll still look for that other one.:flowers: I'l always say that even if you don't particularly like a book, you'll always gain a significant amount of knowledge in a certain area no matter what and I'm always thankful for that.:flowers:
I finished Chronicle today. I got sidetracked for a few days, otherwise I would have been done with it last week.

It's hard to say whether I liked it or not because of its length. The amount of characters is a little overwhelming and gets confusing because you never really get to know any of them and it's hard to tell what's going on at first. I understand that in order to keep it from becoming really confusing, he felt the need to address every character by their first and last name, but more than a few times it seemed very pointless to keep referring to them by both names, especially in the same paragraph. Eventually I just stopped saying it to myself and would only read Angela or Santiago or Bayardo or whoever. Did that distract you at all? Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but it got tiresome at times.

and this post was over the allowed amount. Is there a thread on this book already?
Oh, I just adore Cate Blanchett. I recommend you get your hands on a copy of the movie Heaven by Tom Tykwer (of Run Lola Run fame). It's easily the most beautiful movie ever. :)

If you have a moment read this overview of the film and the it's connection to Krzysztof Kieślowski

I picked up Chronicle of a Death Foretold today. I didn't realize this is the same guy who wrote Love in the Time of Cholera.. not that I've read it, haha. I'll probably start it tomorrow.:)
Hello, i have been a bit lapse getting back here.. i took a left instead of right at the google page.. next thing i knew i was in the amazon getting lost between the deals for the week lol

Thanks! :D But actually... it was hard. I was falling asleep because I took some cold medicine.:p
The aroma would drive me crazy pretty fast too. We toured a candy factory once, and that smelled wonderful too. All that lovely chocolate...
Sounds like a great place to work if you can eat like a thin eater...
I have a friend who makes the bestest cheesecake on the planet. She also does cakes for all occassions, and those are amazing too. Once, she and her dd popped in and whisked me away for a clandestine taste-test of their latest concoction.. a chocolate cheesecake. They didn't have enough for me to share, so they rode me around town while I sampled. That was a blast.
What do you mean by glasses? We use cups...Looks like an interesting recipe; never heard of beer in cookies, but it makes sense if one can make a sourdoughy bread using beer.
