Fascinating scientific stuff

Koshik speaks some Korean !
According to an international team of biologists, an Asian elephant named Koshik can imitate human speech . It’s not completely clear why Koshik adopted his unusual vocal behavior, but the researchers suggest that Koshik was the only elephant living at the Everland Zoo in South Korea for about five years and humans were his only social contacts --- The elephant's vocabulary at present consists of five words: annyong (hello), anja (sit down), aniya (no), nuo (lie down), and choah (good) . As far as the scientists can tell, Koshik does not actually understand exactly what he says, but researchers said Koshik's imitation skills may yield insights on the biology and evolution of complex vocal learning . This ability is key to human speech and music ...
Last news ...
These days, Koshik doesn't speak Korean as often. He recently acquired a girlfriend, so is wooing her with elephant sounds .
Choah ! Be happy, Koshik !

How many of those little things need to join together to make a big, many-tentacled subterranean ice monster?

Meanwhile, Discovery has found something on Mars. They're not saying what just yet.
Mais oui, Mars smells like life :whistling:
By the way, In this article there is an analogy so funny !
( ... ) Zare says in a way, Scientists are like Artists . Sharing what they do is a big part of why they get out of bed in the morning.---"How many composers would actually compose music if they were told no one else could listen to their compositions? How many painters would make a painting if they were told no one else could see them?" --- It's the same for scientists. "The great joy of science is to be able to share it. " ---'Isn't this interesting, Beer good ?? Isn't that cool, Sparkchaser ??' "

Aw, absence of crap.

Rumors and speculation that there are major new findings from the mission at this early stage are incorrect. The news conference will be an update about first use of the rover's full array of analytical instruments to investigate a drift of sandy soil. One class of substances Curiosity is checking for is organic compounds -- carbon-containing chemicals that can be ingredients for life. At this point in the mission, the instruments on the rover have not detected any definitive evidence of Martian organics.

What the frack!? We don't even have flying cars yet. THEY'RE SKIPPING THINGS!!!
Seriously though if that's for real, it's pretty cool

It's exciting that an engine that warps spacetime is theoretically possible, it does make sense given that spacetime expansion is a natural phenomenon of our universe.

It takes advantage of a quirk in the cosmological code that allows for the expansion and contraction of space-time...

I'm not sure I understand "space-time", and I certainly do not understand how either space or time can be expanded or contracted.

Could someone rephrase the above quote in layman's terms please?
