Iron Man 2
Really enjoyed this one, but mostly for Black Widow and Whiplash. I admit it. Although the final battle was a little too short for my tastes.

I just saw this and had the same feeling. It seems they did a lot to build up the Whiplash character and then the "big" showdown was sort of a let down.

We watched Good Night and Good Luck last night. Well done, but it would have been more effective if the focus had not been so narrow. What was there was excellent however.

Secretary. Eccentric and oddly amusing. I wish James Spader's character was more developed.

Repo! The Genetic Opera. Entertaining, but nothing that I'll remember years (or even weeks) later.

Me too!

Everytime I saw Faraday on Lost, I kept thinking about that actor in this movie.

And this is one of the only movies where I can tolerate Maggie Gyllenhaal's presence.

I don't remember him, but I saw Secretary back in 2003. I remember that my friend was trying to cheer me up and had to drag me to the cinema, I was very sad 'cause I thought I'd failed my translation school entrance exams and he thought this would be a funny movie and would take my mind off things. I loved it, but he was extremely uncomfortable :D

I liked the original better (probably just because I saw it first). It was pretty damn good. The American one wasn't bad, just the same as the original.

I haven't seen that one yet, i thought about downloading it so my girlfriend could watch. She refuses to watched subtitled movies....:banghead6mx:

now i need to see Eden Lake. I hear it's an amazing horror.

Is your girlfriend cool with dubbed movies?

re: Eden Lake
I love Dimension films. It sounds good, but it the likeness of Ils, Funny Games, The Strangers, etc. I like that. :)

I really liked Eden Lake. Not a very optimistic movie, it's bleak as hell, but very good. Libra6Poe - if you liked Ils, you ought to like it.

Yay! I do like Ils. Have you seen the others beer good? I really "enjoyed" The Strangers (it made me incredibly uncomfortable). Not so much Funny Games (U.S. version).

I wasn't too fond of The Others; it had some really great moments, but also far too many where they could have just... walked away. By the end, I was so annoyed with the main characters I figured they got what they deserved. :whistling: I haven't seen the US version of Funny Games, but I found the original creepy as hell - I think my exact reaction was "Why does Michael Haneke hate me so? Why does he hurt me, and how can I make him stop since I don't want to turn it off?"

Splice ~ Produced by del Toro and directed by Vincenzo Natali, whose Cube I enjoyed, this one has an early Cronenberg kinda feel, which surprised my as I thought it looked like a Species clone. Takes some surprising and wtf shocking turns towards the end. Highly recommended.

I'm really curious about this one. Hope it gets here eventually.

I saw Martyrs the other day, a French horror movie that actually manages to do what so many others only claim to do: deconstruct graphic violence. Superficially, bits of it look like yet another torture porn film, but is a lot smarter than that, with a lot of interesting psychological insight, unreliable narrators, and protagonists that you really feel for. Ends up owing more to Brazil and Funny Games than to Saw, even though it is VERY violent. :star4:

CRONENBERG!!!! FTW! hmmm I thought this looked good, but figured it would merely be OKAY at best. But I may see it this weekend, if I am not forced to Sex And The City 2.....

It's not as good as early Cronenberg, but there were parts of it that reminded me of The Brood and The Fly. The director is a canuck as well.
