I had to laugh when I read about this.

Article

Longwood parent Tina Harden was so disturbed by references to sex and drugs and foul language in the world of fictional teenager Jenny Humphrey that she is ignoring overdue notices and phone calls from her neighborhood library and its bill collector.

Harden refuses to return several books connected to the Gossip Girl series that detail Humphrey's life, even though she's had them since 2008.

"If I turn them in, they will be put back into circulation and they'll be available for more young girls to read," said the mother of three, who keeps the four books hidden in a closet. "Some material is inappropriate for minors

Someone should e-mail her Lenny's thread:lol:

I wonder if Mom read Go Ask Alice when she was a teen:whistling:

I had a similar situation pop up when my oldest daughter was about 12. In that case, the books were not specifically designed for YA, but were Harlequin Romances set in America's Old West, spicier than most YA, but not pornographic either. These books had been donated to my small town library, and the librarian thought they looked like Little House books for teens, so she placed them in the Children's section. I pulled one of of my daughter's stack and read one(took a whole hour!) and took them back the next day. Rather than confront the librarian, I pulled her aside and told her I why I didn't think the belonged in the kids' area. I assured her I didn't think they needed to be yanked from the collection, just place them with adult books. I still count Lee as a dear friend, 15 years later.

Didn't anybody tell her that there are more copies available? Stealing from the library isn't going to stop young people from getting access to the books.

Bill collector? What that library needs is a repossession team. (And she already let them know where the books are hidden.)

lol... lmao.. that's funny... maybe by her powers she will have prevented a few teenage girls from.... u know the rest

She should just suck it up and pay the fines. I get the feeling, though, she's the "I can do no wrong" type. Oh well.
