So,I was thinking how I really wanted to read a biography on a historical figure. What say you for April?

Some names have popped up in my head like Thomas Jefferson,Ghengis Khan,Eleanor of Aquitaine...

Looking at some historical events for the month of April

Thomas Jefferson was born
James Buchanan was born
James Monroe was born
Ulysses S. Grant was born
William Shakespeare was born
Adolf Hitler was born (not sure you'll get to many takers to read Mein Kampf)
Franklin D. Roosevelt died
Benjamin Franklin died
Abraham Lincoln died
Adolf Hitler died
William Shakespeare died (actually on the same date he was born)
Douglas MacArthur died
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) died
Jesse James died
Martin Luther King died

American Revolutionary War began
American Civil ended
WWII invasion of Okinawa
Hank Aaron hit 715th home run passing Babe Ruth

Out of that group, Martin Luther King, Shakespeare or Jesse James would be my preferences...

Shakespeare has the most obvious connection with this forum, so I'll lean towards Big Willy.

Shakespeare: The World As Stage by Bill Bryson would be one option.

Jesse James might be interesting. There are rumors that he faked his death and went into hiding and had a second family. We met a fella at a local museum who 'in charge' of the section on Jesse James; he claimed to be his great great grandson..after he died:whistling:

I'm nominating The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir.

This is one I have been wanting for a while, she also wrote Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Another Elvis? Have you seen the movie about him?

Elvis or Jesse James?

I avoid movies about Elvis...although I do wonder how the True Blood tv series deals with him and "Bubba".

Jesse James? Last one I remember about him was one with Kris Kristofferson portraying JJ.

^^You can recommend something else,it doesn't have to be from the list.

true I was just trying to give ideas based on the month and book genre

You know I am finishing up Lou Holtz's autobiography Wins, Loses, and Lessons
It is a very good read. It is uplifting and positive. It is no wonder why he is one of the top motivational speakers in the world.

you don't have to be a fan of football to enjoy it.
