Welcome Stewart, O Senior Moderator

I think we all appreciate a bit of the old freedom-of-speech thing. Which makes me curious as to why your three amigos aren't using it.

But anyway, they've gone. Case closed.

Thanks to all the rest who sent thanks, flowers, and chocolates. :)

Sofia, as for the mature forum. Since it involved some code to "hack" the forum's templates to enable posting to those specifically of a certain age based on their birthdate, I'm guessing we are waiting for Darren to find the resource on a PHP forum or find the cash from the forum's advertising income to pay for a developer.

So far I've had PMs from three formerly great posters who have gone elsewhere in order to avoid your gratuitous sarcasm.

For the record, is it really sarcasm that Stewart is allegedly guilty of? Sarcasm to me means saying the opposite of what you mean ("That's a really interesting post, Shade! Thanks for sharing!") whereas to me Stewart's defining characteristic is less sarcasm than not suffering fools gladly. And I'm all for that.

(Not all of them were participants in the Nabokov thread, Shade.)

Ah, so muggle then, as well as Peder and pontalba? Hokay. By the way I respect you greatly, Still, for not taking your ball and going home as they have. And I don't mean that sarcastically! (Nor that!) (Nor that...)

(Nor that!) (Nor that...)

I'm always happy to stay in the game so long's I'm still having any fun at all. I'll just go right on ahead and drop the entire subject now -- if not my actual ball. :D

thanks for the update:)

I've been off the boards for a few days and now I see this thread. What can I possibly say.....? Yikes!

Of course good luck and good wishes to Stewart. Admittedly I'm a bit nervous about his new position of power. I do feel, as some of you know, that Stewart can be quite caustic in some of his remarks and quite short with new users that make simple mistakes about where and how to post. However, he certainly has lots of experience and more than adequate technical skill.

I'm sorry to see some of our friends go. That really stinks. :(

Why? It's not as if I'm going to abuse the privileges, am I?

There's a lot of negativity coming from your refugee friends over at Book Club Forum. Or is it a failure to see the positive things? I'm typically the first person to a bit of spam (which can sometimes be sexual in nature) and so I can remove it rather quick without having to wait on someone else. I can move threads to the relevant area without my "caustic" remarks.

And I can ban whingers. ;) :p

It was their choice. Let them live with it. After all, it's only an internet forum. Hardly a big part of life.

Hey hang on, Stewart! If you're now banning and removing spam with the same assiduity with which you once identified and pilloried it, that means it won't be there any more for the rest of us to laugh at! Every silver lining eh...

Maybe he could collect the best ones in a separate thread? "Stewart presents: This week's wackest spam!"

That Joseph has a Heller of a lot to answer for.

Stewart, don't you go changing your wicked ways! You've brightened my day many times when I've needed a good laugh to ease the soulsucking wall to wall boredom of my work. You're really performing a social service of keeping me out of the loony bin.

Oh, and congrats on the appointment!

It was their choice.

True, and while I'm sad to see any contributing members go, I do wonder about their reasons for doing so. What's the difference between Stewart as a mouthy member and Stewart as a mouthy moderator? (In fact, politics fans, sudden power after years in opposition usually breeds a new reasonableness in people...)

Anyway I do respect the missing (if we're all talking about the same folks here) for just going and not making a public fuss about it. I know from my experience as an admin on Palimpsest, that people sometimes 'leave' in a huff only for me and the other admins to see them hanging about in invisible mode, checking out what's being said about them afterwards! Which I have to say I find pretty pathetic. So kudos to P, p and m for not mucking about with all that.

Well I only came back because Stewart is a moderator and I'm worth at least twelve regular members so the forum's essentially in profit.

Welcome back Litany! Nice to see all of you...

wait, that didn't come out just right, did it?;)

Stewart, it's about freakin' time. What's this... a year or so overdue?

Today I had Chinese (the food). In my fortune cookie I was delighted to find two "fortunes": "The enemy of your enemy is not always your ally" and "You find humor in most things". I'm not sure what these mean, but I think they're signs of forum progression.
