Dragons:
Check out the Dragon Keeper series by Donita K. Paul. Books include: DragonSpell, DragonQuest, and DragonKnight. DragonFire is due out in July 2007.
I read Mythago Wood last year and immediately picked up Lavondyss afterward. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet but loved the first book.
New Author
"The Elder Staves" by Steven Oliverez was stand alone, as far as I know. It wasn't bad either, especially for his first novel. Interesting ideas: check it out on Amazon.
Sorry Wabbit! I searched for stand alone fantasy but didn't see this. I was at work though so maybe I was sleeping. More suggestions would still be appreciated. Thanks for the ones so far. I am currently reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman which so of goes along with American Gods but can...
I haven't read it myself but it sounds interesting enough, if anybody wants to check it out. The Named by Marianne Curley is about time travel. Check out the description here...
If you like Turtledove, I would also suggest Guns of the South . It is about a group of guys who go back in time to help the south win the civil war with modern day weapons.
Glad you enjoyed The Door Into Summer .
The Stars My Destination - Alfred Bester
The Deceivers - Alfred Bester
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
Lavondyss - Robert Holdstock
Dragonquest - Donita K. Paul
These all sound great, providing they stick to the book and don't make too many changes. The more I think about it, a classic like The Stars My Destination or a remake of the movie fahrenheit 451 would be cool. I know it takes alot of work and money but that's what makes sci-fi/fantasy moveis...
First of all... thanks for all the helpful and not so helpful suggetions. Hi Neesey...thanks for the input but actually I have just recently started reading books by christian authors. I read a couple that I really liked and it seemed to me that this was somewhat of an untapped resourse for...
I suggest "The Door Into Summer" by Robert A. Heinlein. It's about a guy tricked into going into suspended animation for 30 years and when he gets out he discovers that he has the ability to travel back in time to get revenge. It's a good read. ;)
