    Deodorant or Antiperspirant?

I used a scrap of cloth, poured baking soda into the middle, pulled up the corners and bound it - I pat it into my pit and I smell delightfully fresh all the live long day. It's washable and refillable.

    The pussification of America

I've been saying so for years - perhaps in another 50 the rest of the nation will catch up and something will change. I was bitching the other day that I'm required to provide stickers to the preschool so that my son can visibly see how well he's performing. Every kid is going to get a...

    Nooooo!!!!! It's September

I don't mind September so much, nor October. November is when it starts getting me down - the shorter days. I have some interesting projects that I'll be taking on this fall and winter so I may not care so much.

why did you join the book forum?

Why did I join? Because I wanted someone to talk about books with. Turns out that I either hate everything that everyone else likes, or I like everything that everyone else hates, leaving me still with no one to talk about books with. I suppose it doesn't matter so much now that classes...

i want to speed my reading

I can finish a 300 page book in a matter of hours if it is really interesting, or it can take me as long as two months, which is how long it took me to finish reading a book that I didn't enjoy but was curious to how it would end.

    Reading in the car?

I don't think you can get used to it. I get motion sickness pretty bad - in cars and when playing video games. The more I push it the sicker I get.

Another PC debate...sports mascots & names

Actually, having taken courses in Native American culture, having been married into a Native American family (my daughter is Native American), and having grown up and attended schools in a Native American community, I can say without hesitation, there is no agreement amongst the hundreds of...

Another PC debate...sports mascots & names

Dolphins ARE dolphins. Vikings ARE Vikings. Celtics ARE Celtics. Native Americans are NOT redskins, nor are they braves. Perhaps in order to be offended by something you first have to be conquered by the person using the term. African Americans use terms amongst themselves that...

    Trying to understand people

One reason a person might choose to register but never post is that when you are logged in you can more easily see which threads have new posts. If you are invisible then you won't be seen on the active members list and you can read the forum without people posting to prompt you to post...

    Vegitarian help please....

Legumes, nuts, and soy products (which includes tofu) are good sources of protein. I've always liked the Morning Star Farms Chix Patties - they don't exactly taste like chicken but they still have an interesting flavor of their own. I'm not a vegetarain but I eat a lot of meatless foods...

    Kill Bill I and II

So I'm obligated to enjoy the cinematography because it was intentional? Sorry, but I assumed, as everyone else likely did, that it was intentional. You would think I had said the movie sucked and was a lousy piece of crap instead of just saying that I didn't like the cinematography. I'm...

hardback or softback books? Which do you prefer?

I get almost all my fiction in paperback and almost all my non-fiction in hardcover. I find it difficult to "curl up" with a hardcover book. It's too hard to hold a hardcover book with one hand - depending on how you are sitting. I rarely lay down or "curl up" with non-fiction, so...

Getting Logged Out (and losing your post)

    what's everyone up to today?

I went to campus to get my books today. I noticed that they had some art supplies that I have been meaning to get so I purchased them there instead of ordering them online. I'll be reading the rest of the day. I'm going to look through my textbooks and then later work on finishing The...

What superhero power would you most like?

I'd like to teleport people to another dimension.

    Kill Bill I and II

Are you sure you read my post correctly? I said there was other stuff that I didn't like, like the weird cinematography that isn't at all "old-school martial arts" and everyone has different musical tastes, I hardly recall what the music was so it obviously didn't impress me. If you don't...

    Kill Bill I and II

I was so hyped for Kill Bill I thought it couldn't be released fast enough. Sadly, I hated the movie. It wasn't at all what I expected and I found all the artsy-fartsy cinematography to be dull and pointless. What had I expected? Old school martial arts cheese-fest with better music and...

    Writing Letters

I haven't written a letter to anyone in years, but I still keep a pen and paper journal even though I also have a journal online. I still know a lot of people that actually take the time to use capitalization, punctuation, and care whether or not they write an intelligible and well structured...

    Edgar Allen Poe

I've been a fan of Poe for many years. I have an old volume (1941) of Poe's poems and stories that I enjoy reading.
