Recently Purchased/Borrowed

Richard Laymon "Cuts"
Tim Lebbon "The Island"

Library book sale is where these two where purchased and I spent a whole 2 bucks on 'em.

Blackout by Connie Willis
Dreadnought by Cherie Priest

I happened to see Dreadnought in Borders, and I've heard so much about steampunk, I thought I'd give it a try.

More for the TBR shelf, sometime in the next few years probably:

Hyperspace - Michio Kakku. 10 dimensions there are. 10.
Genius - James Gleick. Richard Feynmann bio.
The Metaphysical Club - Louis Menand. New to me.
What is Mathematics? - Courant and Hilbert. An oldie.
The Control of Nature - James McPhee. For my engineering heart.
Last Night in Twisted River - John Irving. Hopefully another good read.

Oops, missed one, which I have already started reading:

(God) After Auschwitz, Tradition and change in post-Holocaust Jewish thought - Zachary Braiterman.

Still Life by Louise Penny
Virtual Light by William Gibson
The Siege of Krishnapur by J.G. Farrell
The Quiller Memorandum by Adam Hall
Cicero, Selected Political Speeches
The Archivist by Martha Cooley
The Warrior Queens by Antonia Fraser
Elise & Mairi Go To War by Diane Atkinson

Nigel Hamilton: JFK Reckless Youth (bio for my mom)

Hamilton's book is very good. It gives you a look into the side of JFK that isn't covered a whole lot. If anything, you get a good glimpse into his health problems, which were quite substantial. It is interesting to note that some people use power and influence to avoid the military, JFK used his family's influence to get in to combat despite being so ill.

As for me, just checked out from the public library;
The Valachi Papers; Peter Maas
Against the Gods: THe remarkable story of risk; Peter L. Bernstein

Descent into Chaos - Ahmed Rashid

The Pentagon's New Map - Thomas P.M. Barnett

Linguistics and Literature - Raymond Chapman

Death in the Andes - Mario Vargas Llosa

The Feast of the Goat - Mario Vargas Llosa

- At Waterstone’s I purchased:
The Alchemist ................ Paulo Coehlo
Mr Candid ...................... Jules Hardy

- Online I purchased:
The Aztlan Project .......... J.N. Paquet
The Finkler Question ........ Howard Jacobson
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets ........... Stieg Larsson

I heard the alchemist is very good... but haven't gotten around to reading it... doesn't really seem like my type of book. That Stieg Larson series looks good though.

I got audio of Capt's Courageous b/c a speaker mentioned it and I had never heard the actual story.

Guided by Voices, the National Library of Poetry - Angela Hughes, Editor

The Sisters - Robert Littel

How to Play a Bridge Hand - William Root

The Plain Truths of Religion, Gareth Wilson (am Catholic, yet I love atheism books!)
2 books of short stories by Haruki Murakami

I've added three more books to my post-puppy reading stacks. :)

An Instance of the Fingerpost - Pears
The Collected Short Fiction of Ngaio Marsh - Marsh
Bruno, Chief of Police - Walker
