Worst or most disappointing book?

The movie is good. The book is great. But of course, claiming you didn't like the book after only having seen the movie is a perfectly valid lifestyle choice. ;)

Of course it is :D I do try not to make a habit of it though but I really disliked the movie, so while I do usually find books better than movies I still cringe every time I see the title.
 
I tried reading The Lovely Bones a few years ago upon seeing it was quite highly rated, I just couldn't get into at all, I found it to be very slow. I think they've made a movie of it now

Typing nearly everything in caps and disregarding punctuation, on the other hand, is anything but juvenile . . .

Sofia, I was also disappointed with American Psycho. The author's fondness for run-on sentences and gratuitous gore annoyed me. Thankfully the film emphasized the novel's satirical aspects and downplayed the violence.

I admit I have avoided the movie since reading the book....maybe I'll rethink it now...thanks ;)

I did not like the movie,i find it a caricature of the book.Not to say the book is a masterpiece,but the interesting part was in the utter precision of the man profile,of is cloth,the brands,toileteries as well as the music.Where ellis excelle is in the pure deffinition of a 20th century caractere and the obseciveness of identification through our choice and taste.The profile.
This is barely mention in the film.

His last book Lunar park made me reconsider all his earliers work and his limitation.Talking about deception.
The kite runner was also a big disapointement,i was trying the all way to like it but i end up hating the little brat.I don't think when you are that bad you can change,and didn't buy the redemption part.
 
My sister always recommends books to me that I ended up hating, so I've stopped listening to her book advice! In no particular order, these are a couple of the stinkers she recommended:

The Lovely Bones - Can't put my finger on it, but just hated this book.
The Geisha of Gion - Thought the main character came across as the most horrible person, so gave up half way through.
The Girls - This one wasn't so bad, but just felt a bit pointless.

I have to say I liked the DaVinci Code, I think you have to take it for what it is, a bit of harmless entertaining nonsense that's great to read on the beach. I think if you in to it expecting high literature, then you will be dissapointed.
 
My Sister's Keeper.

Great story. Then the end turned out devastatingly mundane. I had thought..., "Gee, this is a great writer." Then she turns out to be almost as good as Paolini. :(
 
A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens. One of those books that bored me to tears. The only Dickens book I've yet to read. I plan on attempting more but ToTC scared me.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter, Kim Edwards. Awful awful awful. I had no idea I would hate it--it seems to have a lot of great reviews. I made it halfway through before deciding life is too short. Came to find out later that my mom and sisters loathed it as well.
 
im my school theres this project which requires us to read books form the library and do quiz's on them to see how well weve read them and we earn points,i useally win,but once when id read almost all the books(before the next book order) i had to read this terrible book called 'the princess and curdie',by george macdonald

it was the worst book ive EVER read,
 
Moby Dick : i know it's a classic and an epic but by the time i finished reading that novel i didn't want to read a classic again. of course, i have read classics since but i had a lasting bitter taste for the book. If i had to describe what i didn't like it would have to be the constant discription of all things having to do with whales but not the narrative. for example, descriptions of whale engravings and paintings while i just wanted to read about starbuck dealing with the ever crazy ahab.

also, the alchemist: i don't understand how this is a life changing book. i felt like i should have watched the wizard of oz instead of read the book b/c i got the same message. the one part i did like was the owner of the glass shop and his discussion of why he would never go to mecca.
 
Well, I have not read a lot of books but I use to select books by reading amazon reviews. I found out 2 highly regarded books:

1.) The Difference Engine - William Gibson & Bruce Sterling
2.) The Burning Chrome - William Gibson

and both of them feel totally non-sense to me. I purchased them from UK with my precious money and they were pretty expansive books but they turned-out to be crap :mad:
 
fortunatly,i have a good eye for books i dont like,but a bad eye for books i do like,my mum always ends up choosing my latest books that i end up LOVING!,fortunatly i have only ever come across one REALLLLLLLLY bad book,i posted it earlier,but i shall say again,'The Princess and Curdie',by George MacDonald,its the lowest rated book on my excel book list(it wins a measly 1 out of five)

Is that book Non-Fiction ? If yes, does it tell history of some kingdom or some sort of author's thoughts on of political structures ?
