Boardgames anyone?

Socially, boardgames are a little better for you than playing on your Playstation. Over the last few years, hundreds of games have come onto the market vying for positions traditionally occupied by monopoly, scrabble and risk. Simple family games, roleplaying, self contained wargames - all got a bit of a tweak.

(Pitchcar - think of a mix of Scalextrix and Carrom)

(Arkham Horror)

Wargames are a variable bunch. It really depends how accurate you want your history to be. Some of them are very simple to play with a very light rulebook. Others have over 500 pages of dense text (I kid you not).

(Twilight Struggle - not one with a huge rulebook). Inadverdantly taught me some world history around the era of the cold war.

Does anyone play boardgames anymore?

My friends and I really like to play Trivial Pursuit and basically any and all of the Cranium games as a part of Wii Game night. We like to mix it up

I love board games but finding the time and people to play is the real issue.

Games I enjoy:

Settlers of Catan and all it's variants.
Chess. I use the Knightmare Chess card deck from Steve Jackson Games to give it a new twist. It helps level the playing field when you play someone better or worse than you.
Apples to Apples
Scrabble
Monopoly. I get really competitive with this and so not many people like playing with me. Go figure.
Munchkin. OK it's a card game but it's still fun.
Go.
Axis & Allies

That's all that I can recall off the top of my head.

I've been wanting to get Arkham Horror as well as the slew of new Axis & Allies variants and all the cool wargames out there but cost and lack of interest from friends keeps me from doing it.

Are you counting RPGs as board games?

I like Clue and Sorry. Monopoly ends up getting too drawn-out and annoying, although it's great fun at first.

I have always liked Monopoly, and I play a weak game of chess.

I had enough of wargames when I was active duty.

I enjoy all kind of board games, but lately I am on a Blokus binge.

Big highlight a few Christmases ago. Ridiculously addictive and easy to get into with that 'one more go' factor IMHO. In 4 player games, I get aggressive and take a player out quickly (not too bad as most games last less than 20 mins) and steal his/her space but on the rematch every one gangs up on me

Talking about addictive.
LOL, I don't even let my 9 year old win.:whistling:

I hadn't played boardgames for years (we do play dice and card games often) until recently my 10yr old son developed an interest in them, so the last year or so we've played a lot of Clue, Scrabble, Monopoly, Life, Sorry, Battleship, Upwords, Pictionary and a few non-board games like Boggle, Quiddler, Uno, Yatzee, etc. Every time I go home my parents and siblings break out the old faves like Scrupples, Battle of the Sexes, Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy and Scrabble.

We don't tend to play many but ones I have played recently are Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Taboo and Scattergories (the last two when we were drinking with friends, the former when we were with relatives). I do quite like Taboo :)

I don't play board games much anymore, but Clue, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble are my favourites. I like Taboo and Scattergories too.

Me and my friends have always found it fun to drink and play UNO! and this similar game called skip-bo. yea yea theyre card games But close enough

this similar game called skip-bo
Ooh, my boyfriend introduced that to me when we first started dating. That's a lot of fun - but it's such a bitch to shuffle.
I saw that they have an uno - skip-bo combo for the Nintendo DS. I've thought about getting that at one point.

Ooh, Clue is my favorite board game. Haven't played it since I was about 20.
I've actually never played Monopoly before. My younger cousin who lived with me at one point had Monopoly Jr. I think we lost the instructions, so we just made something up when we were little.
My family didn't play a lot of board games when I was little... but I remember having a Saved by the Bell board game which was interesting. Don't remember the rules of it though.

Here at home we love board games. My 9 year old son once tried to teach me to play chess, with no luck....I must be too dumb:lol:

My husband doesn't like boardgames so we're playing a lot on the x-box or Playstation. Usually those disney games or puzzle games. We had a blast with Ratatouille. :)

I wouldn't mind playing board or card games. My father used to sit down with us kids every Sunday and we were playing cards or other board games. He taught me how to play Rummy at age four. Nowadays I play Rommy online. It's not the same but better than nothing. We had two days in the week where our neighbors, my father and I met for an evening of UNO. I sometimes miss it.

(clearing throat with sly cough) Try Spyro the Dragon and Zelda.:whistling:

We're really more of a Pop-Up Pirate and Tumblin' Monkeys sort of a household. Board games lead to bloodshed. We've got Dread Pirate, but it needs more people to make it worth playing, same with Killer Bunnies, and for some reason people are reluctant to play against us. Or they'll play but make ludicrous claims that I'm making up the rules as I go along. And I don't play Scrabble against people that are obsessed with dictionaries and so-called 'real' words.

There's also the problem that any time we set a game up, a rabbit will come along and start eating it.
