The Runaways

Platoon Leader, which was a Vietnam war movie and a pretty good one actually. My wife, being from Cambodia, loves what she calls "army jungle" movies, which are mainly about Vietnam war but can be about any jungle war, even ones in Africa or the Amazon. Her favorite is Missing In Action 3. As she had truly horrible exeriences as child during Khmer Rouge regime, one would think the last thing she would want to see are Vietnam war movies, but this is not the case. personally my favorite one is Apocalypse Now.

I saw the German movie The Edukators last night

Inception. Still not sure if it's smarter than it looks or not as smart as it thinks it is, if it's a more well-done The Matrix or a more action-oriented Mulholland Dr. But damn, it's entertaining. ++

Cop Out: Kevin Smith's new movie (originally titled A Couple Of Dicks). Basically, he's trying to do Hot Fuzz in American. Bad idea. I'm starting to realise that I probably like Kevin Smith much better as a script writer than as a director, and he didn't write this one. Loud, abrasive, and most of the time sadly unfunny.

The Losers: comic book-based action movie I probably wouldn't have looked twice at if it hadn't been for a pretty decent cast (Idris Elba, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana) and a short running time. Basically The A Team dialled up a few notches, with a bunch of disgraced soldiers waging open war on the CIA. Fun, well paced, dumb in the right way. Good popcorn movie.

Limits of Control: Jim Jarmusch's latest. Jarmusch favourite Isaach Bankoulé as a hitman traveling through Spain, running into cryptic contacts who give him hints on where to go next, all of which basically add up to "make it up as you go along". Everyone makes sure he doesn't speak Spanish, then offers him vital clues (not to the plot, but to the reading of it) in untranslated Spanish. Absolutely beautifully made, every single shot here could be put in a museum, and your typical slow-moving Jarmusch story which is more about impressions and ideas than actual plot. Not sure it's as good as his best, but one I'll want to go back to.

Hell Comes To Frogtown. Oh dear god no.

Straw Dogs. One of those films I'm not sure if I've seen before (to paraphrase Tilda Swinton in Limits of Control, there are some movies you're never sure if you've seen or if you've just dreamed them). Straw Dogs is a really uncomfortable movie, and I'm not sure exactly what to make of it; basically, everyone here is a complete asshole and while it's a fascinating drama that escalates to murder fairly believably, I'm honestly not sure how to read it. Which probably means it's good.

[REC] 2 ~ solid sequel with some good scares. I also liked the twist they came up with for the infected.

Really? I thought it was far too much of an Exorcist riff that we've seen a million times before. And shifting from one camera to half a dozen got rid of one of the best things about the original. Still, solid movie, but doesn't really do anything that the original didn't do better.

I hated the kids!

I'd give The Losers 3 stars as well, a fun time waster based on a comic I've never heard of. I still need to see the A Team.

I saw that Saturday night. I was disappointed, I felt that things didn't flow correctly. I had no sense of time, of how and when things were happening. It felt like everything happened in a week.
But it was fun. I would choose this for a "lesbian movie night." The music was great of course.

i'd say it's not as smart as it thinks it is. there's not much depth to the movie, nolan just made a bunch of convoluted sci-fi nerd rules that you have to pay attention to if you want to follow the movie. i can't remember where i read it but someone said that he's substituting complexity for depth, which i think is a fair assessment.

as an example of what i mean, look at the part of the movie where they reveal that if you die under heavy sedation you don't wake up. the way it came up in their conversation you might as well have had nolan step on screen and say "oh yeah, just to make things more exciting, here's a random plot twist i'm going to throw out there". it doesn't feel natural at all and really sticks out like a sore thumb.

i agree. i think this movie works better as a suspenseful-action-thing rather than some sort of thought provoking intellectual masterpiece that all the fanboys are making it out to be.

I can see people being confused by the time line if you weren't familiar with them. Especially towards the end where they left a lot out. It kinda jumps several years ahead and they don't let you know it.

The Professional. What a great movie. The action scenes are beautifully staged and Gary Oldman does some of his best acting here.

Toolbox Murders. I have my problems with the ending. Otherwise I enjoyed the film.

Just so you know, it wasn't directed towards you. It's been my signature for a couple of years now.

Inception - Amazing movie and Joseph Levitt-Gordon is underrated. Highly recommended to anybody 10/10

One of the best movies I've seen in the last couple of years. Beautifully acted, written and directed.
