The Traveller
Has anyone read 'The Traveller' by John Twelve Hawks? What did you think of it. I loved it, completely different from anything I've read before and does make you wonder, who's watching you.
Not likely to happen to me, my first name is Altaira and my last name is very common. There's a Star called Altair which is found in all astronomy books but that's the closest I've ever got.
The only one I've read is 'The Mists of Avalon' which is one of my all time favs. :D I'm now reading 'Forests of Avalon' which is a prequel.
After reading the reviews for other authors I'm tempted to try a few out. :)
I think Alison Weir is one of the best Historians around, and I've read a few of her books also, but for a bit of light reading historical fiction is very enjoyable even if it's not 100% true.
I read this one a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I adore historical fiction, especially the Tudor period and Rosalind Miles is a excellent author. It's not 100% true to fact but entertaining all the same :)
I love historical fiction too, my favs are
The Other Boleyn Girl and the Queens Fool by Phillippa Gregory
Mary, Queen of Scotland and the Isles and Cleopatra by Margaret George
The Morland Dynasty series by Cynthia Harrod -Eagles
Nigel Tranter and Jean Plaidy are also good
I, Elizabeth by...
It's Seamus Finnigan. I think it's the only one that fits :) He has to be the half-blood prince.
What's the betting that J K will prove all of us wrong though?!
If I'm not enjoying a book I won't finish it. There's more enjoyable books out there to spend my time with. Once I decide I don't want to read any more I put it aside or give it away and don't think about it again.
There isn't a Waterstones in Cornwall, the only lifestyle store in the whole of Cornwall is Ottakars. It probably wasn't in stock at the time due to some reason or another, so we ordered it. I used to work for Ottakars, Truro up to a few weeks ago
If you like fantasy mixed with a bit of history and myth how about the 'Mists of Avalon' series by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I was recommended these a few months ago and oh boy I was completely hooked! :D
My favourite character is also Hercule Poirot and for all the same reasons. I've just finished reading Agatha Christie's autobiography, it was brilliant! :)
Patchwork Girl, I used to work in Ottakars, Truro up until about 6 weeks ago. I worked there for 6 years running the MBS section. I'm glad you like it so much. I really enjoyed working there, so obviously it is my favourite bookshop. :D
I love audio books. I usually listen to them while doing something else like cross-stitch. I like to listen to history audio because I find them easier to understand this way, and then when I do read the book I understand much easier. I also love listening to unabridged Agatha Christie...
