You might see if it's one of these here...
http://www.lycaeum.org/books/transcribed.shtml
if you find it, please post back. Sounds like it might be a useful writing reference.
There's also a website somewhere that does something similar, though I doubt it's as accurate, since it's...
It's real this time guys... he's gone. I'm shocked...

from his blog, from Wilson, dated 2:45 pm yesterday Sept. 15, 2007
(Edited to add, I grabbed this from my Bloglines... the Dragonmount site is down at the moment, probably absolutely overwhelmed... which is why...
Umm... I have lots of things I might suggest, but I'm a bit stuck on the semi-realistic part. I have no clue what you mean... since I don't think I could stuff the novels you named into what I'd consider semi-realistic with a trash compactor...
Are you perhaps meaning set in the present day...
Some listings on abebooks...
I'd also include a link to alibris, but I can't figure out how to link to a completed search on it. There are listings there, also.
Try searching by "Ben Perley" for author and "national" in the title space.
I didn't really read through the descriptions, just...
I seem to recall a series that would have been published pre-1995 that was titled something along the lines of "What If" or "What Might Have Been" or What Might Have Happened"... might have been short stories or novellas in the books, with one lead and several others.
We'd have a much better idea whether or not we could help if you gave us some info... :)
Sometimes we have answers rather quickly, sometimes much later, and sometimes, none so far. Never know til you try.
Be patient, though... a great many of the people here don't wander in every single day.
I'm very intrigued, too... but have no clue what it might be.
Any idea on genre? Horror, dark fantasy, romance, literary? Do you remember if it was a recently published book when you read it?
Another assassin book: I'm reading Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn. I'd heard great things initially and requested it from the library, then saw some poor reviews. So it's been sitting here for a while, since I wasn't expecting to like it--- finally picked it up a couple days ago, and...
Wow, I am just not finding ANYTHING about that pair of books (Legacy and Outcasts of Heaven Belt), also published in one volume as Heaven Chronicles)... since I've discovered that neither of our local library systems possess a copy, and now I want to read it, so I'm going to request it/them...
Ooooh... dang, the first one sounds familiar.
I want to say that the first series is Joan D. Vinge's Snow Queen series... trouble is, I'm basis that on having read part of the first book, and not having read the rest of the series yet. So I may well be wrong, especially since the second series...
Hmmm. Elizabeth Haydon's fantasy series that starts with Rhapsody has a quite interesting take on an assassin, and though it does switch between characters, it is partly from the assassin's point of view.
Maria Snyder's series that starts with Poison Study is another fantasy series, again with...
I'm not sure where I'd even start, except that I think I'd have to add the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
Also, this is a really neat place:
Lists of Bests: Books
Maybe John Sandford's Kidd & LuEllenc novels?
They are The Fools Run, The Empress File, The Devil's Code, and The Hanged Man's Song.
Dan Brown's Digital Fortress might fall into the same sort of thing, too.
Ooooh, no, I hadn't run across that site. (Not sure how, either, lol.) Thank you.
Had a hunch it might be something I didn't know about, and sounded like I might want to... grin.
For the record:
I tried Amazon not expecting to find anything at all. I used the advanced search, put in the title you mentioned, used the selection for teen, since it didn't sound like it would be a 9-12 book, and marked it for "before 2003", using a wild guess that you're at least in high...
