    deleted thread?

I posted a thread, or at least thought I did, yesterday for us to list our July 2006 reads in it. And now it seems to be gone. Was it deleted, or did it just not go through?

    Olivia Goldsmith

Of course she's best known for The First Wives Club, and dying during plastic surgery. I've been slowly making my through her books and I've enjoyed everyone that I've read. They're total fluff, but she's so clever, wittym and bitchy. I'd really hate to have pissed her off. In The...

Alice Walker: The Temple Of My Familiar

I'm making my way through this one for a second time. Out of all of Walker's works this one was the hardest for me to get into. I tried 3 times before I was able to read it the first time. I just finished The Color Purple, and Possessing the Secret of Joy. Temple takes place somewhere...

Wilkie Collins: The Woman in White

Has anyone else read this? I read somewhere (don't remember where) that it was considered to be the first mystery novel. I'm about 100 pages from finishing, and I am loving every word of it!

    buying by blurbs

How much do blurbs on books influence your buying? For instance if a writer you really enjoyed has a blurb on the front cover of another book telling you how much they enjoyed it, are you more likely to buy that book? I am. I was looking Stephen King's Bag of Bones trying to decide...

I Am Not Myself These Days by Josh Kilmer-Purcell

I got an advanced copy of this book at work. It's a memoir about Josh who is an ad executive during the day and a drag queen named Aqua at night. At first I hadn't realized it was a memoir, but I really enjoyed it. Josh/Aqua meets and falls in love with a male escort named Jack. As Jack...

    Daphne Du Maurier

I did a search, and most of the threads about her were old or only had 4 or 5 posts in them. So I thought I'd start my own thread. Who here is familiar with Daphne's work? I always meant to read Rebecca after seeing it the movie mentioned in the documentary The Celluloid Closet. Then...

What upcoming books are you excited about?

:D So what books are supposed to be released this year that you just can't wait to get your hands on? For me I'm very excited about a few already. Francesca Lia Block has a new book called Ruby coming out in July. Fanne Flagg has a new book called Can't Wait to Get to Heaven coming...

    Henry Bellamann: Victoria Grandolet

I'm pretty sure no one else has read it. So I'm probably posting in vain. I really enjoyed this one. It's a little different from the rest of Henry Bellamann's stuff. This one actually reminded me a lot of Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca, if Rebecca had taken place in Louisianna. Like...

do you keep track of the books you read?

I mentioned to a coworker that I had read 82 books last year. She and another coworker thought it was strange that I kept a list of all the books I read, and knew exactly how many I read in a year. I've kept lists for the past 3 years. Does anyone else to this?

    YA Sci Fi book

I'm not sure about too many of the details. I read it when I was in 6 or 7th grade I think. So probably late 80s, early 90s. The human race is gone. The only thing that remains are basis frozen in stasis. These big hairy creatures come to earth and accidentally wake up one boy and one...

    Henry Bellamann

I just finished reading Henry Bellamann's The Richest Woman in Town. Is anyone familiar with him? Unfortunately just about everything he has written is out of print. He's best known for the novel Kings Row. I picked up Kings Row because I read Inside Peyton Place by Emily Toth. In it...
