BOTM:Suggestions, ideas and opinions

I like that idea, Barbara Lane. The books I'm seconding are:

Lunar Park (Ellis)
The Big Sleep (Chandler)
Perdido Street Station (Mieville)

I think that choosing genres or themes would be something good to try again as it often seems the suggestions run the gauntlet.

I think this is a good idea. Once a theme or genre can be agree upon we could nominate titles or authors fitting that criteria. Adding another step to funnel our way towards a specific book might help with participation.

Don't mind!!!! If its three months then we have to do this all over again.
don't forget a lot of us go through 2 to 4 books a week so even choosing
2 books a month is not a problem. Not that most people want to do this.
I of course can only listen to the ones on audio. I am impressed with the lists.
I don't feel its a problem what genre. But probably would want more 5 star suggestions than books that we just have in our TBR pile.

Has everyone choosen their top 3 picks from everyone else's list yet?????

Seconding:

Farewell My Lovely - Raymond Chandler
The Demon - Hubert Selby, Jr.
20th Century Ghosts - Joe Hill

I second:
Emma by Jane Austen
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Oh, and since both me and oskylad suggested One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García Márquez, does that mean it's seconded?

Landslide

Re ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE
Yeah of course because it was suggested by two people in their lists it would be counted as its seconded!!!(smile)
I think I might have Emma somewhere in my hidden audio stash.
Hey you come from Portugal
LANDSLIDE nice to meet you!!!

The whole point we started this is to find common books on our TBR piles.Wasn't it?

Has everyone choosen their top 3 picks from everyone else's list yet?????
no,haven't even put my list up.

Yes, and I think we're doing very well so far.
I agree:)

Well, then, what are you waiting for?
Work has me whipped.:)

Here it is:

The Mayor of Casterbridge
Gift of Rain
River Between
Grain of Wheat
Jude the Obscure
Brothers Karamazov
Beaudolino
Flat Iron for a Farthing
Mill of the Floss
The Suspiciouns of Mr. Whickter

(Any spelling mistakes will be dealt with)

We can start anytime,we don't have to finish the book .:)
I plan on finishing it this week, but sometimes plans have a tendency to not work out the way we want them to, so we'll see...

How are we doing with the lists for BOTM?
So far, we have 15 titles seconded or suggested by more than one member:
The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote
Emma by Jane Austen
Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
From a Buick 8 by Stephen King
A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
The Demon by Hubert Selby Jr
20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis
Perdido Street Station by China Mieville
Farewell My Lovely by Raymond Chandler

So how should we proceed? Do we put up a poll or do we ask people to third books?
