I just had my last day at my former job, and my coworkers got me as a departing gift a gift card to Barnes and Noble. (Do they know me or what?)
So now I have to decide what to buy . . .
:)
A couple recent posts made me think of this topic:
Are there any types of activities in books you don't want to read about?
For me, it's a rape scene. If I know there's one in the book, I won't read it. Tend to avoid movies that are that way, too.
There's also a movie I saw a few...
Am seeing this tomorrow, the reviews are excellent so I'm looking forward to it.

I'll let you know what I think.
Scarlet magazine
Someone (female and over the age of 18) please leaf through this and let me know if it's any good. It's over $100 to have it sent the the US. Even if it's fantabulous I probably won't buy it, I'll just sit over here and be envious. Darn exchange rates.
Edit: Whoops...
I know, I know, I'm the one who is USUALLY actually defending Romance as a viable genre, but I just found this plot summary while browsing the harlequin website.
The Stone Prince - Gena Showalter
I realize that the TV miniseries came first, but I read the book first, so if feels like an adaption.
This is my first foray into modern BBC TV, other than the odd episode of Coupling. Are all BBC production values this, um, underfunded?
Just saw the movie, and am very impressed. Not sure if it was 100% worthy of the hype, but a special movie nonetheless. Was actually fidgety while watching it is so slow with so little action, but the way I felt about the characters at the end was very strong. They (director and actors) did an...
Her autobiographical novel not receiving the best reviews on Amazon:
link
I think I'll just skip it and check out Jenna Jameson's autobiography:
How to Make Love Like a Porn Star
It's so nice to see that US publishing houses continue to uphold their high standards.
I'm sure I need this, but I haven't bid since I would have nowhere to wear it.
Maybe I'll make everyone dress up for a dinner party.
Nah, then I'd have to cook.
Have determined that I own too many material possessions. I have this need periodically to reduce the number of things that I own. I've already found two bags of books to get rid of, and I'll be starting with the closets soon.
Does anyone else have this obsession? It just hits me like this...
I'm sure you're aware that Sunday, September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Please inspire us with your plans. :D

Wolf asked me to post this for him - he often writes poems about cars, but they're usually haiku.
LSDFORME
Limited to 35 I crawl while in the neighborhood.
Slipping around the corner I see freedom up ahead.
Deferential to my neighbors I keep the engine’s purr low.
Finally! A thin...
The moon is full tonight, and golden,
dipped in honey.
And my thoughts are dipped in honey,
slow and thick, sweet, and
far, far too sticky.
I have no right to snare your heart.
I can offer you nothing in return but
what is stolen from another.
But I wish for it on that golden moon...
I have this great aunt who is well on the way to senility. She is just about completely blind and mostly deaf, and says hateful things at the top of her lungs frequently, so she's alienated my dad (her nephew) and her sister who lives in New Mexico, her 2 closest relatives, neither one of them...
Been researching the Tristan and Yseult (or Isolde) romance/legend, and read Beroul's version of it. It was evidently very important in the 12th century, which is a period I'm researching, and I'm having some trouble wrapping my mind about it.
For those who are unfamiliar with it, there is...
Just finished an interesting article in Pop Sci about a sci fi concept called the Singularity? Can't say that I completely understand it, but it's something along the idea that there's a point in the future where technology will be so enhanced that we will enter a period that is "post-human" in...
